Greetings, frist time scooter owner here! I just ordered a Tao Tao 150cc LANCER from superiorpowersports.com yesterday.
What can I expect from scooter and the dealer. I know they have a lot bad press online but I believe that's from folks not understanding what they are getting in to. I fully expect a large 400lbs crate to be dropped on my porch with little or no work done to the scooter. They say do a PDI, do they? what do they really do? I am ready to to change both the oil and gear oil and check over every connection, hose vac line and nut and bolt before I even hit the stater.
I am not a kind of person that abuse's things and will not go over 25-35MPH max, (speed limits in town). In general if you baby the scooter, what kind of service life can I expect from this scooter? I hear repairs are often, I have no problems doing repairs (am very mechanically inclined cars lawn mowers etc). But doing repairs weekly or serval times a month would get tiresome ordering parts etc. I know they need oil changes like any engine.
Is changing every hose the spark plug and so forth really needed right off the bat to expect reasonable service 5-6 mile round trips?
Is a the scooter going to work for me, or is this going to be not a good fit? Thanks for your input!

Most current scoots now at least come with descent hoses for your fuel and vac lines. Just check them over to make sure everything is connected to the carb, vac lines etc and I am sure since it is CA approved it has some emissions on it. Check that the hoses are connected to their canisters. Check the wheel bolts, muffler bolts just your common sense stuff so things don'tm fall off on your first outing. Once you get them set up and running good I find they are very reliable. What breaks them down are the hot rods they crank them up and run them at high rpms for long runs hunched over the handlebars and down hills to go 900 miles an hour and the rpms are out of sight(HAHA). The Tao Tao Lancer 150 is an entry level, bottom tier scoot. The Lancer body style is one of the most popular body style the Chinese produce. Nearly every distributor has that style in their line-up.We always had that style because it is a large frame scooter that will fit a 6 foot rider. Well maintained, you should get 5 years or more out of it.

I bought my bike from them. I ordered the Roketa model 75 in yellow and I received exactly what the picture showed, only it isn't a Roketa, it's a Jonway. No real biggie and only difference seems to be some minor parts being different.
Overall the buying experience was easy and my bike showed pretty quickly. My biggest issue with SPS has been trying to get a hold of the parts dept. Of all the calls I've made to the parts dept, I've only ever been able to talk to someone around a 3rd of the time at best. Leaving a voice mail with my name/number and request has never yielded a call back. Using the online parts request form has been successful only 1 of 4 times.
Their parts are more expensive than most other online parts merchants. So unless it's under warranty, I'd search for the parts elsewhere.
As long as you do your own pdi as you said you were going to do, and do regular maintenance you should have a bike that will last you many seasons.
