First thank u all so much for the info u share; u save us so much $$ I will be donating to this site. When I hold my brakes I get no start or lights. The right side stopped working first but the left would still work for startup & brake lights. I found R & L brake switches online but I cannot find visual instructions to install them. Most manuals have no specifics or pics about replacing the brake switch. Is it E-Z ?

Are the brake switchs the round type? or Square type? Like in this picture? The square ones usually have a screw holding them on the round ones some have two nuts others you have to push them in to the hole and turn it as you can see the tab on the round one. It all depends on what type of switch yours takes. If you could take some pics of your switch by the handle to see how it fits in I can probably tell you how to take the old one out and put the new one in. Alleyoop

www.eagleatvparts.com/That's the dealer for tao tao parts. Just click on scooter, then cy50-a on the next page and it shows you all the parts. You should only have to replace the one side. You may find the same part cheaper on ebay... I had a cy50-a with the same problem. I liked it like that though. Cops can't say you were speeding then hit your breaks. Its saved my arse plenty of times. Its easy to install, just put it back on the same way you took it off

I checked the store eagleparts and the brake switch is the Square one the bottom one I put up. You will have to take the BLUE cover off to get at the switch, Yes your pictures came through and taking the switch apart is not going to help to get at the BRAKE SWITCH you will need to take the cover off it is a plug and play. Thanks jjoshua. Thats my weekend project now. I will surely update you with the good news of my success! NP. I hope everything goes accordingly. The cy50a is my favorite 50cc class bike. The rpm gauge is great for tuning, its comfortable and can fit 2 ppl. And it handles nice. Not to mention it has a 42mm piston vs. the stock 39mm everyone else is riding on. The steering column commonly gets loose so beware. It also has a plug by the headlight area to hook up and alarm/remote start system. Its plug and play no wire matching, and the alarms are cheap! Like under 50 bucks. You just have to have a good battery and use the bike every or every other day to avoid a dead battery. I used a 12v 8.6ah 150 CCA. I would say the installation takes about 10 mins and is as easy as changing a light bulb. If you have any questions about the bike feel free to ask.

The plug n play went well. I was able to start n ride but I noticed I have no brake lights when engaged. Signals & headlights are working fine. Also the other day I started it up and each time I released the fuel it would shut off. I rode it up the street and back, slowly, without releasing the fuel completely and it was fine but as soon as I release the fuel handle thingy, it shuts off. And yes-I love my 50cc scoot too. Takin care of it like a Benz-without the debt

It may be that the IDLE is set to low. Turn the IDLE SPEED SCREW 1/16 Clockwise and see if it then stays idling, if not give it one more 1/16 turn on the IDLE SPEED screw. Alleyoop Here is the CARB and where the IDLE SPEED SCREW IS. CLICK ON THE PICTURE TO EXPAND IT SO YOU CAN SEE IT BETTER.

I have turned up the idle and as soon as I release the accelerator, it dies out. It is getting fuel but the flow is stopping for some reason or other.

check and make sure the fuel filter isn't clogged up. make sure fuel is reaching the carb. there may be something in the tank blocking the fuel flow or the tank may not be venting.

Check the idle mixture. Its the small screw that's usually on the side of the Carb opposite the idle speed screw towards the bottom.it should be roughly 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 turns from all the way in. I have the same model scoot and that seems to work like a charm most of the time.
The idle mixture screw controls the first 1/4 throttle. The needle on the inside of the Carb controls the 1/4 to 3/4 throttle. And the main jet controls the rest. Or so I've been told.
