This is a carryover from my post on the custom spacers I had made to work with the BaneBot motors I dropped in my son's PW F-150. Basically it's just some info I've collected on the more readily available 32 pitch, 16 tooth, 5mm bore pinions that are out there. Hopefully this helps someone out when it comes time for them to try their first upgrade! By the numbers the Castle and Axial pinions are identical, but there are significant differences. The Castle pinion is machined aluminum, very lightweight. The Axial pinion is powder steel, and the teeth are angled at the bottom. This leaves less surface area to engage with the spur (first) gear. Since these are all 32 pitch, 16 tooth you would think the teeth would be identical. However, as these top views show, there are slight differences between the manufacturers. At an angle you can better see that the top of the Novak pinion is hollowed out a bit, ostensibly for weight savings as these pinions are typically used in custom built RC cars. Thanks for reading, feel free to ask questions. Hop over to my spacer post to read about how to get perfect pinion placement on the BB775 motor shaft.
