I used paypal to buy a clutch cable a little over a week ago. Today I get a bill from "paypal credit". I never signed up for their credit. I called their fraud dept and determined that some other companys name different from where I bought the cable instigated the charge and paypal signed me up on paypal credit with out my knowledge. They refused to take a credit card for payment of the bill and wanted my bank acc number which I refuse to give out. Talk about bad business practices this takes the cake. I never heard of a place that forces a credit account on a person. Looks like ebay and paypal are going to be history for me. Ebay only sells if you have paypal.

Any one who has your bank account number and routing number can withdraw from your bank account today with electronic banking.

Very easy to get around that problem, open a new account just for paypal and have the min amount in it and then go to paypal add your bank account they will verify by transferring a couple of pennies then add your credit card and you will be set. Just remember when paying always change to the credit card because they default to your bank account.

That ain't going to happen, with minimum balances, account fees, and a monthly charge at most of the banks around here for a paper statement I am not going to the bother for paypal. With out a paper statement its pretty hard to go to the cops with no evidence in your hand.

I feel it is just stupid to even write a check unless it is a trusted place. Take those gas stations who still take checks, around here they run the sale then give you back your check. All that gent behind the counter needs to do is copy the numbers on check and wait a week or so before he fills his tank with your numbers and hope you don't notice on your statement and if you do good luck convincing the bank you didn't do it.

With all the feedback from paypal sellers who have their money with held after delivery has been made of their products for no good reason I do not trust them.

The only reason of trust for paypal is I was using a real credit card for payment whose numbers are hidden from the individual ebay seller, then they changed rules and you have to use paypal for ebay and I believe that is a anti-trust suit in the making.

I'm wondering if maybe the wrong button was clicked, on the authorize payment page. I did this myself a couple of weeks ago, but caught my mistake. The large colored button that read OK, right under the amount to be authorized, was not the samething as the less prominent, uncolored, located farther down, pay now button. The larger more prominent button had smomething to do with Papal Credit.

I know I made this mistake, and I've had a paypal account for more than 13 years, maybe more.......and have used it hundreds, and hundreds of times.

i think i remember something on the news not long ago about paypal tricking folks into a paypal credit agreement so that they can charge extraordinarily high interest rates on items purchased.

You just have to watch what you click also how you want to pay BANK ACCOUNT OR CREDIT CARD and they DEFAULT TO BANK ACCOUNT SO watch that everytime. Yea we have been using PAYPAL for decades now and we spend quite a bit every year in the thousands and we have had no problems. We use it cause we order a lot of things we do not go to the stores to shop we shop online so not giving our credit card #s to different sellers is good and much safer.

I'm missing something here. How do you use paypal if you don't have an account based on your checking account? I too have used for years and have not had issues. I usually charge to the backup credit card but they could just as easily take out of my business checking account.   I understand that Most frauds originate through card hacking and most of that from people eating out and surrendering their cards to waiters.

The checking account has only come to be within the last couple of years. I had PAYPAL for decades with no checking account just two credit cards AMEX and VISA. Then a few years back they requested for you to have a checking acoount so I opened one just for paypal and put in 100.00 in it and never use it to pay I use my credit cards.

I use a credit card for every thing and it has been at least 20 years since I paid interest on anything!

I joined paypal at least 5 years ago and to my knowledge they required the account then. Interesting to know.
I've  been debt free for a number of years but use a credit card on line that I pay off every month so that I never pay interest and insulate my liability.   The credit card is just a tool and I would not dream of opening a Paypal credit account.

I will tell you one thing Pay Pal saved my butt many time from people who sells stuff which isn't any good or junk or not described you get quick action then any other way,

I always use PayPal and I don't have it linked to an account. I just make sure I have the amount I need in the payPal account. That's it. I refuse to link it to my bank. When I know I'm going to buy something, I transfer the amount I need to the PP account and then make the purchase.

I still have my business paypal account but haven't used it in years. I had some issues with them years ago and refuse to use them. Where I do agree that paypal does protect the consumer, they go overboard. In their eyes, the seller is always wrong, no matter what the issue is. All the customer has to do is complain and then "bang" the money is reversed. There is no investigation.

i've had no issues myself,,,i've used it on hundreds of transactions,,,pretty much of the last three bike builds and service parts have all been paypal paid buys
