I have noticed that the number of 250cc Chinese scooters available from online scooter dealers is way down. Does anybody here know the reason?

The short story is that many of the lesser quality "schlock" scooter distributors have left the US. The only decent ones that come to mind are sourced from Znen. You might also try the 300cc Linhai's.
When you figure that some 65% of the scooters sold in the US are 50cc's, 150cc size is the next biggest segment, that doesn't leave a whole lot left over for the 200cc plus market.

The short story is that many of the lesser quality "schlock" scooter distributors have left the US. I knew that many of the dealers, and importers, with a lesser reputation have left the market. I did not realize that the majority of the scooter was for the smaller size. I just hope that there is enough demand for the 250acc scooters to come back. By the way, I have just noticed today that searching the net for Scooter Depot does not result in finding their web site. The complaints about them are still there, just no web site.

What I would like to see is an aircooled 200 sized engine powered scooter. A lot of parts are already made for other chinese products such as cranks rods pistons etc. A cylinder with fins at 90degrees is no big deal to set up on a cnc and a crankcase would not be hard to scale up. Water cooling does give more power but is not worth the extra cost for an affordable scooter. A 200cc and a 229cc engine is real popular with dirt bikes. This would keep a lot of people from dangerous situations on 55 mph highways and extend the life of scooters that keep getting flogged to death. A gy6 originally was a tiny engine that got a bigger piston. A 150 is fine for a lot of places in the world but for where there is a 55 mph limit..... it just doesn't cut it here. Adding 50 to 70cc would not cost anymore than a couple hundred retail at the most.

I'd like to see a 550 or 600 that's not crazy heavy like the Burgman is. Insane. It can't be that hard to build a scoot that can actually compete with some bikes for a decent price.

An engine that big would take a heavy frame and certainly would not be a step thru. If your going to have a monster you are way better off to swing your leg over and have a motorcycle. If you do some checking most of those who do go for huge engines on scooters are those who can't work a clutch for one reason or another. The ride and handling on engine mounted swing arms sucks and the bigger the engine the worse it gets. When a scooter retail gets where it is more expensive than a bike there are very few people that are going to pay. such as the $10 grand scooters.

Sunny may just have decided to follow a time honored tradition: Cease operations, rename, and resurface as a new entity

The only problem I have with the 250gy6 bikes is that the body takes on a more touring style, like the japbikes; Silverwing, Morpeus, etc. None of them seem to be any sort of sporty at all- which is what I want in a bike, not that long, heavy look. I used to want a 250Helix, but I don't want a scooter that corners like a H/D, the sportest 250 I've seen so far is the BigRukus. They should figure out how to put the 250 in a 125/150 chassis.

Get your self a t-max. I hear they are going to start making them again for the US. Its a twin cyl and fast. If you are going to spend that kind of money I would much rather just get a bike. $10k and more on a scooter is stupid as far as I am concerned. For that kind of money you can get a real nice bike. Like maybe an Indian!
