Changed my rear tire six months ago.  Rode 3,375 miles since then.  Changed rear tire again today.  Used Kenda 413 tire both times.  Is 3,375 reasonable lifespan for a rear tire?

Changing it was much easier this time now that I have experience.  Tire cost me $28.  After I mounted the new tire, I asked my local tire shop to inflate the tire since it is difficult to seat the bead.  I offered the mechanic $5, but he did it for free.

By the way, did same road trip that I did two weeks ago..... Fresno to Monterey and back again.  Took a slightly different route to avoid big rigs.  No dangerous moments this time.  I am loving the long rides.

I would say yes with 10 in tires but have you tried to find a Japanese tire made in there country? I find china hasn't got there yet rubber compound seems soft and brakes down quickly. Also on my trikes there tires don't truly run truly round. Been changing them out little at a time.

Kenda is made in Taiwan. Will try Pirelli next time.

People think a 10 inch tire is a lot smaller than a 12 inch.....there isn't that much difference in circumference and there are some that are actually bigger too. The rim size isnt the whole truth. In the world of small planes there are some that are landing and taking off with 6" rims.

I think some of the cheaper tires have rubber that may even be harder but less strength so they crumble away like a cheap pencil eraser does. I have liked pirelli's for a long time, They are a real sticky tire that holds the road better than any I have found. It does not pay to take your life in hand with a cheap tire especially when there are only two of them.



edit: pirelli tires are made in brazil where the best rubber in the world comes from too.

beware of the pirelli brand,,only got a little over 1100 miles on my rear on my et4,,,i'll never use them again unless it's an emergency and i'm stuck in the middle of nowhere and thats all i can find

Used to get 3 and 4000 on my 1200cc bandit with diablo's and that bike was really hard on tires. When I bought it there was a brand new avon on the front and I wore the left side wall off in quick order. Lots of curves around here and you can go faster on a left than a right curve. Sold that bandit with 32k on the clock so I went thru a crap load of tires.

I put a brand new set of Bridgestones on my Nighthawk and then put 10,000+ miles on them and they still looked great when I sold it. On a car I expect to get 50k. On a big bike, I expect 25k and on a scoot I would expect at least 8k or 9k.

Tires cost too much flippin money to be replacing all the time like oil.

Yeah, I'm a cheapskate. Proud of it too.

Most mopedders swear by perelli, and Michelin, so if perellis scooter tires are junk, I'd look for some Michelins. Dunlop might even have something.

I'm not saying Pirelli is a bad brand,,,,they stuck like sh!t on a blanket,,,they just didn't last long,,,but then again I touched the Vespa down at least once a ride in turns,,

People ride for a lot of reasons. Some for economy, some for convenience, many many reasons. I ride because I just like to ride. I am old....if bones get broke they don't heal. I used to push a bike to the limit. I like pirelli's because they stick and if they don't last as long as a rock hard dunlop I just don't care.....its a lot cheaper to buy tires than appear in the emergency room. Rock hard tires don't feel good riding on them either. I think a lot of the bargain tires just have a poor compound that neither sticks nor lasts and in my mind they are a very expensive way to go in the long run.

Some of the tires I would consider are michlen, metzler, pirelli, avon, bridgestone, continental, and have heard good of a couple off brands but those I have not tried and therefore can't recommend, the rest here I have used. The knobby 606 dunlops on my klx are the best dunlops I have ever ridden on and apparently a different compound than their street tires. john

I have a pair of Pirelli SL-26 and I well over 5k miles on them and they look like they could last a few k more. I also got some of the Ride On tire balancer and sealant, the places around here(if you can find one) that may change a scooter tire over won't balance them and I find this stuff works great. I got mine from BikeBandit.com, although there may be other places it can be bought, but my tires are in great shape and they ride really smooth. For a scooter you can purchase 2 bottles @ about 13 bucks a bottle and that will cover front and rear tires. I love my Pirellis', they stick in the curves and give you nice sense of confidence that they are doing their job, even in the rain. Just my opinion.

Get a pair of Pirelli SL-26's They have killer traction and handling and last long.

Changed my rear tire 45 days ago. Rear tire went flat today. Darn nail right through tire! ARRRRGH! Removed tire from wheel and waiting for new tire from Amazon.
