Hi Guys, I would like to get a brighter bulb for the headlights on my Viking. It's a dual headlight ruckus clone. With a 12v 18/18w bulb in each. They look like this: They are mounted in a plastic headlight so they can't be much hotter in temperature. Are led bulbs cooler running? billtrek

Way cooler, lots more light for a given wattage too. Trick is to find the right one that not only fits but the right shape for the reflector.

Can't seem to find any led bulbs with this shape. nothing with the metal ring around it. Does anyone know what the bulb shape is called?

LEDs need there own reflector. They don't work properly in reflectors made for standard bulbs. The light pattern they create are considered illegal and dangerous.

Well, they work really well with a projector, as far as a reflective surface, I've never seen any used with a fluted halogen style reflector- this of course is only going off my knowledge of bicycle lighting. Depending on the type, and amount depends on how to use it's light the best. The best bike lights- using leds- usually have projector lenses, or none at all, those for automotive use have projectors, for better spread of light- which many(5x6 replacement lights) don't do a good job of. They don't generate heat, but their circuitry can very well do so, which is why some have heatsinks. Still probably not as hot as halogens, though.
