While on a ride at full throttle I suddenly started to lose power until my scooter died. Scooter smoked a lot after it died and struggled to get started. It didn't sound good. Took it to a shop and they said it sounded either like a crank or crank bearing that had gone out. They quoted me anywhere from $500-$1000 to replace. Scooter is maybe worth $700, so I'd really like to do it myself.
The problem is I have no experience working on one of these. I don't know what parts or tools I need. I have seen several videos online that are somewhat helpful in knowing how to take everything apart, but I appreciate any advice I can get. Also, what am I looking for to know for sure that I need to replace the crank?

I believe replacing the crank involves removing the motor from the bike so it can be labor intensive and time consuming. A lot of folks find it cheaper and easier to just replace the motor.

pretty involved,,,not that you can't do it,,,but by the time you get the parts and tools to do it a replacement engine starts to look very atractive,,,replacing an engine is much easier than taking it out rebuilding it and putting it back in
