My bike has been having very rough takeoffs (from 0mph to 7mph) and it's been getting worse and worse as time goes on. I believe I'm now hearing my clutch slightly squeaking too at idle? The roughness is only during initial takeoff and usually gets noticeable after I've been riding about 10-15 mins, and the whole bike will shake shake shake shake and give a grand finale SHAKE (with a quick squeak), and then the rest of acceleration is normal and smooth. I noticed if I'm on a fast road and go 50-55mph for a bit, it seems to "cool it down" and it takes off very smooth temporarily.
I recently sprayed canned air into the clutch holes (with clutch still on the bike) as an attempt to fix it, and a good amount of dust came out and kept coming out as I kept changing angles and spraying again. It didn't seem to help. It's become such a horrible shake that I feel the bike will just crumble underneath me if I give too much gas on takeoff.
I've tried taking off more aggressively than I usually do as I heard slow starts can cause this, but it doesn't seem to be helping.
When I look at the clutch with CVT cover open, I see the clutch constantly tries to push itself forward in small jerky motions while the bike is idling, which makes my rear tire spin slightly too if it's off the ground. It's not enough to push it forward on the regular kickstand or when I'm on it. My idle is set to 1500rpm when warm, and I tried lowering it way down to 900 rpm to see if it'd stop, but the clutch and wheel still continues to move the same.
I noticed when messing with different variators/rollers, any combination that makes it initially takeoff at low revs makes the bike jump MORE. Vice versa, combinations that cause higher rev takeoffs, the bike still jumps but not as strongly.
The clutch is stock I believe, and I've had my bike 6 years.. maybe just time for a new clutch? I'm assuming it's the clutch anyway?

Yes , sounds like your clutch is slipping pretty bad. You will probably find the pads are pretty worn down by now after 6 years. Alleyoop

your idle may be a touch high causing the pads to rub but not grip during idle. this will cause the pads to glaze over and lose lots of grip meaning they try but lose it quickly giving you the terrible jerkiness until high ehough revs/centrifugal force keeps them put. you will see that they are very dark and shinny (glazing) and is very simply fixed by lightly sanding until no more shine and the color is a lighter brown.

after that or if you have already ordered new ones, make sure you adjust your idle down so the clutch is not trying to turn the wheel at idle, sitting at a light etc. if on the center stand (rear wheel off the ground) and the tire spins even the slightest while idling it is too high.

Thanks dyoung, I'll keep that in mind. I actually have already ordered and received a new clutch but am waiting to put it in after I'm not so needed as a taxi around here, just in case anything would go wrong... don't want to make anyone miss an appointment! I'll go ahead and take pictures of my old and new clutch once I get doing it.
My idle is set to my bike's recommended spec of 1500rpm. Though when it's cold out it wants to idle 2000rpm... not sure if that's a problem. I did have it set to 2000rpm once upon a time because it kept my headlight lit up bright instead of flickering at idle... had it that way for some months. That was back when my headlight worked!

Riding with a passenger puts you near the GVWR (gross vehicular weight restriction). This makes the clutch slip more during takeoff, leading to glazing on the pads. Riding two up means more frequent CVT maintenance and replacement.

I just put in my new clutch...the difference is crazy at takeoff! Old clutch felt as if I was almost dumping the clutch every takeoff, and new clutch I can't even feel there's a clutch anymore. Taking the nut off (first time it's been off) was a little scary... I thought my breaker bar was starting to bend it took so much force. So I used my leg and stepped on the breaker bar gradually until it came loose. I put it back on with 35 ft/lbs with my torque wrench, because 30 felt so wimpy compared to what was needed to get it off, and I'm paranoid when it's my first time doing something! After replacing clutch, RPMs were a little high at first but they seem to be coming back down to normal after a quick test ride or 2. It's like going through a break-in period or something. Here's pictures of my old and new clutch. The new one is the one with yellow pads. You can see the old one has lost its padding far from the edges, and it's very smooth/glazed.

Good for you, rosiemoto ! You've been "going to town" upgrading your scoot lately! The thread on adjusting your RPMs was extensive and I've been "Nose deep" in my scoot so, I couldn't really follow it but, congrats on all of the experience you've gained!

Thank you olivertwisted! Yes I have been going a little crazy trying all kinds of things. People around here have gotten used to seeing me out there every day working on it... the funny part is I haven't been out there much the past couple weeks, but people still tell me they see me out there working on it every day. lol I did the same thing on something else, after someone backed into my bike - now I have a 24/7 camera pointed at it (simple webcam with free motion detection software), but I was constantly playing with the camera settings, program settings, and swapping out cameras. It's like I just have to get some things the best they can possibly be... even if that means going right back to where I started sometimes! Update on the new clutch: after a few rides, the RPMs are back to normal... just needed to break-in. All is good.
