What you can test while waiting for the SUNDAY delivery , is start it up and let it idle and die then try touching the CDI and see if it is HOT to the touch.

Great that the bouncing idle was due to the fuel ratio was it LEAN did you richen the mixture? Now test it for bogging and how it take throttle, give the throttle a few quick full twists and let go. The RPMS should rise quickly and come down quickly to the idle you set. So you should get VROOOM VROOM nice and quick and smooth. If it hangs a little coming down it is LEAN. If it comes down to idle and then wants to drop more and die it is just a hair to rich. ALL TRICKs OF THE TRADE Lol! Sunday delivery... I did the above. Wasn't bogging at all but WAS hanging, indicating LEAN. But I adjusted slowly (1/8 turns counter at a time) , waiting for the "Hanging" to disappear but it never did, until the mixture was too far counter and it killed the engine. I checked along the way for a sticking throttle at the handle but, no. Yesterday, I did check the CDI after it died for heat. Everything on that side does get some warmth but, there was nothing that felt particularly warm, including the CDI And that was after running and cranking it so much that, I worried about the battery running low.

I have always read to leave the idle screw alone till the AF was adjusted but, just now, I adjusted it down a little then reset the AF to 1 1/2 out and the "Hanging" is gone

Great, enjoy the evening Sounds like the carb is setup nicely now, so now it is a matter of hoping it does not die all of a sudden with the new CDI.

It seemed to all be good with the idle but, I started re-encountering the "Hanging" condition then, it died on me. That's when I decided to shift gears and get away for a bit. It was just what I needed ! I'll re-approach tomorrow. Gonna pop some corn and watch a movie

Could also be a small pinhole or tear in the needle diaphragm. A small air leak will cause a hanging idle.

BUMMER!! Are you getting spark after it dies? Or is it that it dies then will not start for about 20 minutes?

I am looking around for a spark plug wire to put an inline window for the spark, so I can observe if/when I lose spark. Actually, that is the way that the previous owner described it but, Im finding that it CAN start back up sooner than 20 mins. All I can say for sure about that is that it requires a rest before restarting. I'm not experiencing a consistent 20 minute window.

I have to tell you that sounds just like the valves or valve is staying a little open until it cools down and seals. You may want to re-check the valve gaps and set them both to .004 inchs maybe even set the EXHAUST one to .005 inchs which is the most likely valve creating a problem due to the heat.
If you do before you put the cover back on, rotate the motor over a couple of times and re-check the gap before you button it back up.

Ok. Yeah, I figured, go back to square one and re-check that too. Why in the world would I feel air shooting up from here?

That is ok the fan on the FLYWHEEL blows air UNDER all the BLACK SHROUD to cool the motor so you will always feel air blowing from under the shroud. Alleyoop

I think ive finally got it set but, as I was inspecting and going to hand crank it a couple of times, I saw the rust on that contact on the flywheel. Figure that me be causing some problem ? Also, my timing marks don't look like any I've seen as reference. Do mine look lined up about right ?
