Here you can see the Orange Coil on my Trike this was March of 2010 having the motor bored out NO one has test them but the OEM supposedly put out around 20,000 vbolts the ORANGE COIL is supposed to put out like 30,000 volts and the RED COIL like 40,000 so it should lite up something (LOL).

Just for giggles check the wires connected to the COIL many times they are loose on the coil terminals and need a pinch to tighten them up. Alleyoop

One other thing take the BOOT CAP off the plug and turn The BOOT CAP CLOCKWISE they screw onto the COIL WIRE, it may be loose and not making good contact with the internal coil wires. Many time if loose I tell folks to cut about 1/2 inch off the COIL wire then screw the BOOT CAP on nice clean wires. Alleyoop

I brought my spark plug into the house to have a better look at it. Looks like I'm running quite rich, yes? That's a NEW plug !

What's the gap set at?,,,looks awfully close to me,,,and don't go by the "hey they're pre gapped" story,,,I just did final assembly on a bmw r1150r and the "preset" plugs were out by 8 thousands ,,,and I like Alleys suggestion of checking and trimming the plug wire back and I also would be checking every single spade and plug in connection on this thing,,,I know it's all purdy and all now,,let's not forget the thing looked like you dragged it out of the ocean when you got it

Okie doke, I'll give it a go! I planned to take the coil off to have a good look at it today so, I'll do that, put it back and see if there's any difference. If so, it'll be a backup to the orange one. Is that CLOCKWISE looking at the top of the cap or, looking at it from the bottom/inside of the cap ? lol! And too, I didn't mean to give the impression that, that was the "Dangle-y" part. That was the dust cap that covers the end where the contacts are. I'm sure they are in need of a cleaning, Cyborg will be glad to hear me say I cleaned the plug up with some fire and light sanding last night. Now cyborg , have I impressed you to think I'm the kinda girl that would rely on the pre-gap ? OH, the SHAME!!! Lol! Now, I'm foggy in the head enough to recorded the setting in my head incorrectly and then set it incorrectly but,I actually bought myself a new set of feeler gauges for it since, my old, old, OOOLD ones were starting to look a little pitted by time. I'll re-check it today after fishing out the gauges, now that it's daylight out About the spades and connections, I know that you are very right about that. It may very well be what is going on with the coil. The only connectors that I haven't had off that I can think of are the coil contacts, the stator, and the hard to get to starter motor contacts behind the carb. Thank goodness too because, considering the ingenuity that I had to use with all of the broken tabs, slight sun warpage to the dash casing , etc; it would take me days to disassemble and re assemble this thang again so, I'm working through the access panel under the seat. Thank goodness , for the access panel !

It WAS set at a little snug .6 mm but, not .58 mm . If I remember correctly, .6 - .7 mm is the setting ?

.7mm is good that is .28" which is not to closed and not to open. The gaps can run from .25-.32 so in the middle is good.
1. narrow-gap risk: spark might be too weak/small to ignite fuel; 2. narrow-gap benefit: plug always fires on each cycle; 3. wide-gap risk: plug might not fire, or miss at high speeds; 4. wide-gap benefit: spark is strong for a clean burn.

Don't forget to lean the Fuel Ratio Mixture out a little. 1/4 turns at a time TRY to find the HIGHEST IDLE out of the Fuel Ratio Mixture Screw. Alleyoop

Will do! Was attempting that today but, coincidentally, was having a hard time keeping it running long enough after it warmed up. Hopefully, the new coil coming will be the solution. I cleaned up the contacts and all today but, it didn't help. We'll see.

Well if the spark is yellowish I would say the coil is going. Lets hope that is it so you can enjoy riding. Alleyoop
