So my scooter right now has been living in a friend's garage where it's nice and safe and warm. Now that I've got a license plate for it, I think I'm ready to bring her on home. The only issue is that I live in an apartment, so I want to make sure my baby will be well protected from the weather and from folks who might covet my fine ride.
Did a lot of searching, reading reviews, and checking details on good all-weather covers and this is by far the highest rated one for all I need. Some covers mention being "water resistant," which means if I spit on it then anything under the cover will probably not get any spit on it. But rain, snow, sleet... yea... not going to be resisted much. This one is 5-ply and sounds very weather resistant and water-proof:

Next step is to protect it from those jealous folks who wish they were as cool as me and had a HOT scooter of their own. I see a lot of these disc locks that are very reasonably priced and I think would be a good deterrent to any potential thief.

I thought I'd throw this little cheap alarm onto the whole mix just as one more added layer. It would be easy to disable this audible alarm and remove it, but I figured by the time they took the cover off, worked around the disc lock, and then if an audible alarm went off, too... I think 99.99% would give up and leave it alone. For the cheap price, I can't resist it.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

just get it covered with insurance for theft. 2 people with a pu can make it gone in less than 30 seconds. They do that with $30,000 brand new 1000lb Harleys bolted to the ground with 10lb locks and log chains too. With the light weight of a small scooter it doesn't take much ingenuity make it gone. Alarms and locks do help to keep some of the dumber crooks back but........

Unfortunately what you mention may stop children but if they want it almost nothing will stop them.

Funny you should mention insurance, since I work for an insurance company that does insure motorcycles, scooters, ATV, and even golf carts. There is one other layer of theft protection that I happened to enjoy and that's.... living in Iowa. Even living in the biggest city in Iowa is a far cry from say, Chicago or Minneapolis. I also live in a real good neighborhood.
BUT... I'm also not a fool or complacent, because I believe in the Seven P's of life, "Prior proper planning prevents piss poor performance." BE PREPARED FOR THE WORST!
Cover, lock, cheap alarm, and... I paid $860 for this scooter so the insurance better be real cheap!

Minimum ins around here about $50 and full coverage for my old majesty ran a little over $100 and the same with my klx250. The big selling point is the extra medical should a deer or a low life hit you and put you in the hospital. A dog wrecked me and a china scooter I had paid $1100 for and with only min I got stuck with medical bills and scooter was trashed. An extra $50 would have covered every thing. I had min coverage on it. With full on the klx I have towing too.

Do you best to protect it from the bad boys for sure. As far as a cover, I would not go with 'water proof'. That will hold in moisture and cause rust and decay. Even if it doesn't rain it can collect and hold humidity at a high level. The 'water resistant' materials may allow some rain to come in but can breath and allow the scooter to dry. Some have a 'water proof' upper cover with 'water resistant' sides. I also live in and apartment and understand space issues. But, if you can there are small shelters as well. I will see if I can find a link to what I'm talking about and return. Here is a very good one that I have personally seen and used; www.speedsupplies.com/accessorylistingdetailpurch.asp?item=115582&gclid=CjwKEAjw3sKpBRDJ7rDqzsyuhDASJACZAikitmuNJMVa04QZ2YdRVoRVVVlDApwimaLEMeErNQ41ChoC9vzw_wcB

Last night I wound up on utube and some how ended up watching about an hour of bait bicycle and a few bait moped videos. Took forever to get to sleep after all the laughing. One set of them they took a rope or maybe thin wire rope and left a bike in the open. The perp would hop on, some one would start chasing to make him ride faster and then he would hit the end of rope and come flying off. They did it with a moped too. Then put car airbags under the seats. One guy who stole the moped was actually knocked out when the airbag blew him off the seat. The moped was left running unattended. In every one I watched the perp was over 20 years old too. One was a woman thin, maybe 40, in a park going down hill on the bike, the shock knocked her off over the front and she lost a shoe in the process. I love it when the crime back fires.

That couldn't have happened in this country. It would be major lawsuit time for sure.
