I guess tomorrow I can start it briefly without the shroud and see what comes out. I did notice that there was oil on the inner left side of the shroud.

I have had a cracked valve cover that leaked along the o-ring seal. You are going to have to clean off the engine of all the dirt grime and oil and dry it to see. The is some red dye you can get to color the oil. And its going to be a lot easier for you to see than it will show up on a photo.

It looks like it is coming from the valve cover. I'll run by the scooter shop on Tuesday. I need a new shroud gasket too while I'm there. A head wouldn't hurt too.
At least this gives me the opportunity to clean up my wiring and glue the broken plastic

it was the valve cover gasket. I tore into it recently and fixed a few odds and ends. I replaced the pod filter with the original. rejetted the carb, fixed the turn signal. I need a new head but I am not putting anymore money in this hunk of Chinese garbage. I'm looking for someone with a spare head they can sell me cheap. I'd like to save up for a Taiwanese scoot. it seems like around here they go for $1200 used. so looking at my bank account, I will get one when I retire in 2035
