I joined a while back when I first got my trike and got some well needed info on my 2012 Ice Bear Trike 150cc. I shredded my belt last week and just got my parts. I had taken off the cvt cover and found that one of the clutch springs had broken. I decided to replace the clutch also. I used my impact wrench and it wouldn't loosen the nut. I used a little heat and tried again and still no luck. I got out a 2 jaw puller and my ratchet and used a little more heat and still no luck. The socket slipped off a couple of times and now it's a little rounded on one side. I can still put a 6 point socket on and it's tight, but I hesitate to mess with it before I get some advice. Can anybody help???

Either cut it off with a dremel, thin cut off wheel or a nut cracker. Being careful you will be able to cut most of the nut with out damaging the treads on the shaft and be able to get it off. If it is rounded forget sockets, all that will do is ruin the sockets.
A regular Black impact socket is what should be used with an impact and they have six sides just as the nut has. If it is not loose they will generally remove any nut.
If you are not sure best to find a shop or person who has done this before. Damage to the treads on shaft will require a new shaft and more work.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was really looking for someone to back up what I was thinking. I was using a deep well impact socket (six sides), but when I tried the puller I couldn't get the deep well in that small space so I used a regular 12 point socket and that is when it slipped. I am going to buy a short 17mm impact socket and give it one more try with 2 jaw puller. If not I will cut it off. I've done it before, just have to be careful. Thanks for the input.

did you work the nut? Try to tighten it a bit sometimes it will break it free.

Sorry for the delay, answering the you guys about the frozen nut on the clutch shaft. I had to cut it off. I didn't damage any threads on the shaft, and everything went great. Thanks for the good advice. Hurricane Matthew came through, and we had to get outta Dodge, (Daytona Beach). Nice having this forum to get help with my trike issues. I appreciate you guys.
