Recently bought a used 50cc taotao as alternate transportation back and forth to work. It ran when i bought itn it had no battery and the guy i bought it from broke the ignition assembly. I replaced both the ignition and battery so i could use the electric start, however when i tried to start it, the starter would click and the engine wouldnt start. Tried to kickstart it and got the same results. Had a mechanic look it over and he said the kick start was loosing compression about halfway through. He tried using apair of jumper cables to directly hookup to the battery wiring on the scooter and still could not get it to start. Can anyone give me some idea as to where to look for the problem? He also mentioned something about the solenoid not getting a spark, if that helps.

EDIT: Also have a brand new spark plug and wires, as well as a new fuel filter.

Personally I think you need a different mechanic.

Personally I think you need a different mechanic. Be that as it may, i'm more than willing to do the work myself, but i need a definitive place to start looking for the cause of the engine not starting. Also, there are no scooter mechanics within 50 miles of where i live, so getting a new one will be difficult.

With a situation like this, always go back to the last thing you did. If it started before you replaced the ignition, then did not start after, it's time to revisit the ignition you replaced. Sounds like you are not getting spark to the plug now.
