So I had and oil leak and took the crankcase cover off and put on a new gasket. Put everything together and the starter just clicks it doesn't turn. Took it all apart again and everything seems to turn. Put it all together again and starter just clicks no spin. Put a new starter on and the same thing. The flywheel turns clockwise by hand and I would think this is the correct direction am I wrong. It will not turn counter clockwise. The starter spins clockwise so the starter gear would go counter and the flywheel gear would then turn clockwise. I also tried running 12 volts directly to the starter and the negative seems to arc when I connect it to ground. But nothing is turning. Any ideas?

Yes it turns clockwise however it should be able to turn counter clockwise although i dont really recommend it.

It has a starter clutch so wouldn't that stop it from turning backwards? I think all the grounds are good. Not sure about the valves and timing but the flywheel does spin by hand. Had a mechanic today tell me that he thinks I am binding something when I put the case together so I am probably going to open it up again hopefully tonight.

So I took it apart today and with the starter gear out I turned over the starter and it spun fine. I put the case back together and put only two bolts in 1 on top and one on the bottom. Hit the starter and it turned over. I then put a third bolt in one of the bolts that hold the clip that holds the stator wires in and the starter wouldn't turn over. I took that one out and put the other bolt that holds the clip, barely tightened it and starter wouldn't turn over. something is binding and stopping the starter gear or the clutch. Any ideas? I'm stumped. I have been using form a gasket liquid gasket, is the original gasket maybe much thicker? that would hold things apart a bit.

I can't understand why the yellow AC wire goes to the headlight relay.

I found out that just the absence of the belt case gasket bound down the GY6 starter to where it would not crank. I just put that thin little gasket where it was supposed to be - and that did the trick. The starter worked perfectly.
