Your prob right , the kickstart post is prob holding you up. I'd prob try to work it out possibly tap the post in while working the cover off. I run the 842 length belt. You def get a lot more travel up the variator with the 842 , so you should have a little more too end. I just don't like how these scoots don't have an rpm gauge. I had to buy an aftermarket one so I could run the cvt correctly.

I always left the kickstart gears and everything out of the cvt after I took the cover off . I never liked the kickstart setup on the gy6 , it always worried me that something was going to get caught up from it. I always wondered what would happen if you hit the kickstart accidentally after it was running , maybe nothing but it just always worried me

I actually just got 83mph on the interstate yesterday morning. It was a slight downslope but it was moving , lol

Same with mine , that's why I use my phone speedometer app. They must all be like that.
