Dr. Pulley sliders on the way Question is? By speedracer (Read 2,937 times)

I have Dr Pulley sliders ordered 8 of the 20x12 12 gram sliders. On the CVT cover is a black plastic air intake piece. Does that have to be removed in order to remove the CVT cover? The reason I ask is that there are two screws in it which have to be cemented in. In other words they don't move at all. Dewalt driver has not enough power to remove them.

Hercules must have put this scoot together, because there is not a nut, bolt or screw which isn't extremely tight.

YEP as far as i know it does need to come off, mine did when i put my set of sliders in

Thanks fubar05. If it has to come off I'm in for a project. I have already removed the bottom plastic and all the screws holding it on, so I should then be able to remove the CVT cover. Also going from 14 gram standard rollers to 12 gram sliders. No hills where I live so I hope this is the right choice for me to make.

Is the bolt on the variator 17mm as it is on the GY6?

yes i think so ,mabie , do you have an impact wrench? , i used a chain wrench myself and it came off with just a little grunting...lol
i DO have some long hills in my town and it sure helped and at first i didn't lose any top end but i have a tare in my diaphragm and thats keeping me out of the race's for now,but you will love the take off and passing power from that upgrade for sure!,i think it is pound for pound the BEST upgrade one can do for these scoot's!!

Reply #4 Doc I am talking about the black plastic piece which is attached to the CVT cover? Not the cover for the air filter. There are two screws one is seated through a hole in the cover and the other is just below it to the right.

Reply #3 Yes, I have an impact wrench and have used a 17mm socket to remove both the variator bolt and clutch bolt. Was wondering if I use the same size socket.

Thanks, once I get the CVT cover off I can loosen those screws. 17 MM socket to remove variator nut?

12g sliders arrived so now the fun starts. I count 4 screws holding the air filter on and I plan on removing the lower body plastic, which surounds the kickstand and runs to the front cover. Am I removing too much? I have a 17mm impact socket but if I need a different size does anyone know the correct socket?

I'm hoping the 12g sliders give me a quicker zero to 50. I plan on cleaning out any grease inside variator and slighty greese plastic clips correct?

correct , do you know what came with it?....14g mabie? if so , hold on tight ..lol it will be a noticable change , i did one thing most probly wont , i drilled a hole just big enough to get a long screwdriver threw for the cover as there wa only one screw that i couldnt get without taking of bottom plastic ,now i dont need to take that panel off! and i do think it is a 17mm ,

Thanks Furbar, I thought about drilling that hole but wasn't sure the bottom piece of plastic still had to be removed.

Did you encounter any problems removing the CVT cover without removing bottom plastic? If not its a great time saver.

Yes, I have stock 14g rollers in it now.

no i sure didnt,came right off.gotta use a deepwell socket ,as there really is not enough room for a short extension and socket ,and 14g is what is common in them , man do i love the extra pop it has now,it's vary much like a rebel 250cc as far as pick up to 55mph or so ,plus i need much less throttle to get up hills now , and no loss of top end at all! mabie got more if anything,i also took jrryan's advise on tire upgrade and that may have given me a mile or two top end ,it sure in the hell helped on smoothing the ride and doubled the handeling ,plus now my chino metor is only off by 4 mph on top side, 51mph and up, below 51 it is dead on !.
i also did not use grease ,except a little on slides.

It's been an all day process. An hour spent on just cleaning out all the grease in the variator. I did take off the bottom piece of plastic and removed the 2 bolts from the air filter. Removed all 11 bolts and tried to pull the CVT off. Impossible so with some help from the Doc I was finally able to break the seal and off it came.

Getting it back is another story. I can not get the fan cover on as the belt is not going back far enough. My hands are numb from trying to pull the clutch in enough so the belt will go down and give me the needed 1/2" to get the fan cover on.

With the belt over the clutch pulley there isn't any room to get my right hand on the pulley. I can only use my left hand and I am not strong enough apparently to pull it open. So it sits in the garage.

Pull the clutch apart put a wood spacer in it and then slide the belt on. It takes just a little piece of wood to hold it apart then place the belt on, bolt on the variator fan plate then pop the little piece of wood out.

You can even if you have a skill saw or table saw fashion you out a nice wedge of wood to do the trick. Place the wooden piece on top between the clutch faces and as you pull the clutch apart the wooden piece will slide in by itself.

OK Doc you are saying take the belt off completely, open clutch and put in a piece of wood?

Yes. basically if you have one of them squeeze clamps with the rubber jaw you could use that to help you open up the clutch. Do what ever you can do to get that clutch space to open up so that the belt can bottom out on the back side then you should have enough space at the variator to put it together.
