ok I ordered a cdi unit it is about the same size as what is in my running scooter ( this will be my spare ) I pulled my working cdi out and put the new one in and the scooter did not start. So this boggles my mind the cdi units are the same size shape and plug size. the new one has nothing written on it, the working one has stamped in the plastic FLP (same for my regulator) so is it the wrong cdi or a defective one.
Please help me make sense of this..

it could be a dc cdi unit. most gy6 have a ac cdi system and it can be hard to tell the difference. the dc units I have are bigger than the ac ones. how many wires does yours have going to the two wire plug?

If you determine from the above link that you have the correct CDI and all of the connections are secure, you've got a bum CDI. If so, where did you purchase it from? Rich

It is not hard to tell the difference in DC and AC CDIs One is large and the wiring is different. Check the number of wires on the right connector. Check my drawing... Attachments:
