I went to the city the other day, ( 450 people ) 33 degrees and I saw a guy leaving a spirit store. I saw a scoot as I was walking in and a man got up and starting putting on clothes over clothes. Now I had to see this: this guy walks out to his scoot and starts it up, gets on it, throws a blanket over him and the scoot and takes off. Wow ! if the blanket gets caught in the tire , he's a downer for sure. As I walked back into the spirit shop a guy in there said that the scoot is his only transportation, he doesn't have a car or truck just the scooter and he lives about 16 miles from here. I wish this guy well and I must say he has balls, frozen balls..................LOL's ;D

Well, I've been riding into the 20's... I where Long Johns, quilted flannel shirt, insulated leather motorcycle coat, leather chaps, & insulated leather motorcycle gloves... I'm good for 30 - 45 minutes out (25 -35 miles) w/ a warm up break & 30 - 45 minutes (25 -35 miles) back in to home... That's about all I can muster, then it calls for a 40 gallon hot shower to thaw out... Last night I did a 20 mile midnight ride at 28 deg. I'll say one thing, the leather does a good job shielding the cold, but when that leather gets cold & you get cold, that's it, you're all done...

I'm with Wildman. I have ridden in the 20's several times and the cold hasn't bothered me much. I have a great heavy winter motorcycle jacket, insulated leather gloves, put on long johns, wear my insulated motorcycle boots, and under the jacket I wear a sweat shirt. Of course you need a full face helmet or suffer from brain freeze. Tomorrows low is 28 and high is 52 so I'll be out riding most the day.

Yes , I can understand the leathers but I think I have come up with something as good. It's called Tyvek suits, I think that's how it's spelled. Google it, or yahoo it........... Anyway, this suit is worn in different situations, chemicals, paints, sprays, etc. They use them at my work basically for the chemicals. They zip up the front and are bulky. I've worn a pair over coveralls, but I had to get a xxx size so that they would fit. They are rain proof so that would mean they should be wind proof also. I have worn this suit hunting in some deep snow and in the teens so I know what it will do. They also come with a hood like the one I have. The cost is pretty reasonable, 4-6 dollars for a suit isn't too bad... Last night it snowed here, about 6 inches so I guess the scoot ridding is off for awhile.

guys! pls listen to me!...here's what i learnt and discovered this morning. it was 38F this morning and since i'm a warm blooded asian guy,, never in my wildest dream to ride a scooter in that kind of temp, nevah!!,, i tried it before but ,after several minutes of riding i had to go home because i really can't endure the freaken' coldness... this morning, i'm really itchy to ride, my wife handed me a warm to hot coffee, i drank it bootoms up in 10 seconds.. then i started riding,,guess what,, i didn't feel any chill for the next 2hrs or so..unlike before.. So, bottomline is,if you are riding 20F temp, it's wise to take a cup of warm coffee... or glass of warm milk,or even wam water for that matter... the heat from the coffee will be stored in your body fat and continuously warm your entire body while riding. i had a great ride this morning,..it worked for me,,try it!!

Luke, Try one of those suits. You'll like it. What makes it cold is the wind, just as the wind chill factor. If you can break the wind, you'll be warmer. No pun intended ...

Now put that Tyvek suit over the garments you have on and you can ride around the world. Get the one with a hood, it will zip up to your chin. Yep that's it. Like I said, I have used these suits for hunting and they are great. I have laid in snow at very low temps to hunt geese and deer and I haven't got cold or wet. For that kind of money you can't go wrong.......

Luke, I sorry to say your solution won't work. For ME anyway. I'm 5'9"-10" and 165 lb of rolling leanness. I don't have enough "body fat" to absorb the warmth of a cup of hot coffee. Beside, you know what they say about coffee? It gets you going in the morning so I'd be to busy looking for a john to enjoy the ride. If I can't find one of those a tree works but then I'm exposing parts that are really cold sensitive. M/C

Banana tree??? What the heck is that? Do you think we have any banana trees round here!?! Luke, bananas come from the local market! The blue ones have wheels added to them and sold to Asian scooterist! Oh, you are SOOOOOO on the naughty list! Randy, Tyvek is the same thing used to wrap houses for a moisture barrier so it makes perfect sense that it would work on a person. Remember that the best insulation is "dead" air, so stop air flow and you keep warmer. M/C

Too cold for my ars to be riding fo sho. There's about 3-4 inches on the ground now and in the upper 20's. I did finally get my MB5 running decent after some carb issues and I did not even THINK about taking it for a ride. I did finish putting up the X-mas lights though...I must REALLY love my wife.
