Hey guys, this carb drain hose that hangs down at the front of the trans cover, should it have some sort of plug in it? Mine does'nt, at least not that I can see, and I've never lost any fuel out of it. What is it there for? I've seen in the tech section where it's put higher up on the trans cover, does it need to be plugged so nothing gets in the line, or is it o.k. as long as it's higher than the float chamber? Cheers, Mike

You are correct, that's the float bowl drain. It should have a screw in it and it's a good idea to put some blue loctite on it so it doesn't fall out and start draining fuel at an inconvenient time. If it's hanging below the bowl and not draining when your fuel valve is open, it's plugged somewhere. As for leaving it open and above your float bowl, it's true it won't drain but dirt will find its way in. As much as the little guy is maligned in the scooter world, it's actually pretty handy for draining the carb when changing jets or checking to see if gas is getting to the carb. That's why in the tech section I suggested moving it to the CVT cover so you could actually use it. Rich

Many thanks Rich, I'll move it higher and plug it now when I change all the fuel and vac lines. Mike

Sometimes these carb bowl drains have the drain screw on the float bowl, with the tube hanging down - no screw at the bottom end of the drain hose thingy...

Yes, your Carb has a screw next to the Hose that is your drain Screw. If you turn the Screw Counter Clockwise it will empty out your fuel bowl, you do not need to plug anything and leave the hose hanging down in front of your cvt. Alleyoop I think Bashan is having a Brain Fart today ;D

That's good to know Thought it was a bit strange that there was no plug in the end of the hose. It's hard to see the bottom part of the carb while it's in place. Cheers guys

Nope, no fart this time. If you look closely you can see the little brass screw in the end of the hose:
Where the screw is on your carb Alley I have just a flat surface. Rich

Well Looker never mentioned what type of carb he has but from what Looker asked he has a carb with the drain screw built into the carb. Otherwise he would have noticed the metal tip and screw at the end of the hose and would not have asked if it needed to be plugged. There are two kinds of fuel drains on the carbs we are used to seeing the GOOD kind with the drain screw built into the bowl LIKE MINE and then the ones that have the drain screw built at the end of the hose which always vibrate loose and you loose the screw and have fuel streaming out as soon as bowl starts to get fuel. So I still say you had a Brain Fart Alleyoop

I will admit to a brain poot but not an outright fart . When Looker said he wasn't having gas pour out with the hose hanging lower than the bowl I should have realized something was different from mine. As chance would have it, a package was waiting for me when I got home from Absolutely Scooters. I've wanted to try one of the Walbros Dave sells and since he was having a 20% off Thanksgiving special I thought I'd snag one along with some other goodies. The new carb is just as Alley described and I took a picture of it sitting next to my old one:
My old one is obviously the one on the right and you can see there is no drain srcew on the carb, it simply has a drain nipple and the screw is at the end of the hose. I wasn't aware of the other variety until my good friend Alleyoop mentioned it. Live and learn. Rich
