In my 50cc scooter it has a ES9BS Everstart (walmart) battery
I found 4AH and 5AH at the local store, will they work? Or does it require a 7AH?

Thanks guys. I think the battery is dead. It will start with a kick starter, it will charge a little bit after a jump or riding, but it wont hold the charge.
After 13K miles I think it's time for a new one.

No matter what the vehicle I always buy the biggest battery that will fit. Warranties are better and they last and last and last. Also if you get into a hard stat situation the smaller battery will heat up faster and possibly warp the plates, causing a short life it.

Are gelcell batteries better? Do they make a gelcell that fits in floor compartment? I really like this tech discussion. redrocker1

You can use them as well all, but you will have to put different connectors on the Cable ends. Also they are usually not as tall and longer and narrower also more expensive. Alleyoop

I dont agree with any of that. The AGM batteries are pretty much the same setup. The only difference is they are sealed and maint free. They charge quicker, have less leakdown, can freeze and will still work when they thaw. You can mount them anywhere on your bike since they are sealed. The main drawback to AGM is that if you charge them too quick or overcharge them they are easy to damage and if you let them get to less than 1/2 it can damage them. As far as price they can usually be had for about the same or less than the stock battery. It mainly depends where you by it from. I put AGM in the last few bikes/scoots I have owned and as soon as theres signs of trouble (or before) I will put one in the XF200. Put it this way. I had enough confidence in the AGM that when I put one in the motorino I left the kicker off it.

www.batterystuff.com/batteries/motorcycle/sYTX9-BS.htmlGoing by you first post I did a quick check and came up with this. You can always check your battery measurements and look thru the list and probably get a higher rated battery if you wanted too. I did that with my nighthawk and got one that was rated 30cca more that fit in the battery box.

Yeah he did say gelcel. Most of the time when the gelcel battery subject comes up they are actually referring to the AGM and don't realize theres a difference between the two. With the advances in battery tech I would still prefer the AGM over the rest with a good acid battery a close second.

ZugZug, I agree with you I prefer AGM Batteries as well. That is what actually came with my IB Trike and it is over 3 years old, never put a charger on it, just the Trike chargeing it. Starts right up and at Idle it is charging at 14.5 as well as when running at any speed. Alleyoop
