I have a stock sunl adventure 2006 150cc which has a bad engine.
I bought a new 150cc engine off of ebay from tmotorsports and installed it.
I had a few electrical issues and after replacing the wiring harness today, i am ready to finish up the job tomorrow, but I have run into a snag.
The stators from both engines "appear" to be the same 6 coil type with exactly the same wiring coming out to the same type of connector.
My old engine has the larger cdi, but has 2 wires coming from the top 2 prong connector (which is contradictory to what the video here and advice elsewhere says will be - I should either have 1 wire up top or a smaller cdi). Both wiring harnesses old, and new are from stock sunl adventures of roughly the same year, and both have the two wires connecting to the top of the cdi.
The new cdi supplied is smaller but otherwise identical.
My old rectifier is the small 4 prong silver one, but the new one suplied is much larger, black, and 5 pronged (research shows a 12volt black monitoring wire as the extra prong).
I am at a loss. I dont know what parts to leave in the bike - considering just swapping the old stator in and using old parts, but I'd like to have new parts used since i paid for them and god only knows how close to the end of the line these used ones are.
Does anyone know how to check for certain if your stator, rectifier, or in my weird situation, the cdi is ac or dc?
If Im switching from one type to another (say ac to dc), Is swapping as easy as just using the new engine stator and accompanying parts (small cdi, and larger rectifier) all thats to it since I already seem to have a second line on the top of my cdi wiring?
*when switching the harness, I checked to see where the second cdi top line went and it showed that it connects to 3 of the starter switch wires (white and yellow for sure), and 2 others on another connector. I wrote it down somewhere but misplaced it earlier - will try to find if relevant.

For some reason it all wasnt there, If you can locate national supplier they have tech help, or do you think its just an age related thing associated with the constant upgrades that are done? Before I would start cutting and snipping it might be possible to change staror and keep on mopin.

If I cant get help from someone experienced in a few hours, then yeah, the stator switch and use of old parts os whats going to happen, but Id really like to know what I would need to do to switch over and use new parts.

It sounds like you already checked out the technical section on the difference between AC and DC CI's. It sounds to me like you have the 2 wire AC which is the more common one. The one was to check the new motor and know for shure is to take off the flywheel over the stator and see it has the power wire for the AC CDI. If its DC you will only have the bare copper coils. If its AC you will have anouther wire going around a few of the coils that powers the AC CDI.

JH is right on, pop that flywheel with a impact and a strap wrench and look at the stator. The AC power coil, or the magneto, is all wrapped up real nice in some waxy cheap cloth. if it's not there it's not AC.
The stators from both engines "appear" to be the same 6 coil type with exactly the same wiring coming out to the same type of connector. And that would be.......? If it looks like this, a three wire harness and also a blue and red wire, it's AC:
The red sends 50 to 100v AC to the same input pin on the CDI that a DC takes from the battery. You made a point that the video said that the DC was larger etc. If you listen closely to Steven from Monster GY6 he says "usually" several times. There are no absolutes in this field other than

I switched stators today just to be sure, and both stators had the extra wrapped wire going around the coils to power the ac - only difference that I didnt notice before hand for some reason is that the new stator had 8 coils and my old one was 6 - now I may go back in and redo it just for the better stator.
Scooter runs after procedure, so thank you all for the help.

Cul, glad your up and running. I've read where more than a few guys think that there's not a lot of difference between a 6 and 8 coil stator as far as generating capacity. I'm sure it's one of those opinion issues. However, it's just about universally accepted that going from an 8 to an 11 makes a significant change. So anyway, if for some reason you needed to stick with the six I think you'd be OK. Rich

Good job Godfeast, glad you are up and running. Like Bashan said guys have found that there is not much difference between the 6 and 8 pole, but maybe it would put out enough more power to safely operate some other accessory. Alleyoop

It may not be a big issue for me anyways. I replaced all the taillights (flashers and brake ) with LED's ages ago and the clock is disabled on the dash.
I'm pretty sure my draw is low , although I havent done the math - was planning on adding a 45w walmart fog light to the side of the scoot to increase night visibility, but thats been on the back burner for ages.

if you want to add stuff go with the 11pole stator and the 7pin regulator , I have done this from the 4pin 6coil . I made my head lights dc my voltage is stable no dimming .
