Any down side to removing the charcoal canister and the associated lines etc? I was also looking to block of the egr on the valve cover whilst checking the valve clearance. I thought I had looked at EGR blockoff plates, but I cant remember where I saw them. Any help is appreciated.

Depends if you live where you get an annual inspection...
Don't block the ERG. Your engine will build pressure and could cause case leaks or seal failure..
Best idea is to switch to a NON-ERG valve cover and the run the vent tube to a catch-can...

I believe most Valve covers have both the EGR outlet as well as the Vent near the top of the Valve like this one. If it does have both then YES you can block it off and get rid of the Emission stuff. Alleyoop

Here is my experience with removing both the charcoal vapor canister ( which was causing major probems), and the EGR system which is actually called the PAIR system (pulsed air injection reburn). I felt my scooter ran much better after removing them but this is an opinion issue. Dave at Absolutely Scooters, one of our banner vendors sells the little plate to close it off. I'm sure you coud make your own with a bandsaw and some aluminum stock. Rich

Interesting the ones I have seen here is Canada don't have the standard vent nipple...just the EGR elbow.
Mind you my scooter has two CDIs and the weirdest "fresh air injection system" I have every seen...
It is long gone and the engine runs far better without it...

Fortunate? I live in Alabama like Bashan and we don't have emissions testing here. I will take a look at the link and see where to go from there. Have to go buy a vacuum T to replace the crappy Y they used that keeps pinching off my petcock vacuum line. Then carb adjust and break in time!!!!!
