Ok So I believe my issues with being sluggish have to do with the carb. But Before I pull the carb apart. (I have never pulled a carb apart) I need to know a couple of things. Should I just plan on buying a rebuild kit and rebuild the carb right away? And where do these tubes go that are on this carb? In the pictures I have pointed to 2 tubes that are on the carb that were not hooked up to anything. One has been pluged off the long one on the bottom of carb and the other is just hanging there. both look like the should be hooked to something but I have no clue where. Ok symtoms. I get out on the road take off is real smooth and snappy. Where the issue is that when I get out on hiway going down straitaway I can feel it kinda surge a bit on and off which makes me think that the fuel is being blocked in some way. Also pulling a hill I think it should have alot more power pulling a hill The motor is almost adentical to my Dads Linhai and when I am on his I can run the hill without loosing speed at all and this one I can not climb any hill full throttle without loosing speed. Which makes me think carb issue. So on to the pictures. Any help would be great want to get this baby purring I want to ride this year and not be wrenching every weekend.

The top hose with a BEND is an overflow hose as well as vent that is the way should be. The Bottom hose is your Fuel Bowl Drain Hose, that is used to drain your carb bowl if needed. Now you see that little screw right by the bent hose that is your Fuel Ratio screw if it is surgeing on you it is probably running to lean. Turning that Counter Clockwise Feeds it a little more Fuel and Counter Clockwise Less Fuel. Before you go and start tearing it apart which from you are saying is the problem your carb is not clogged. Otherwise you would have hard starts and bogging when taking off and such.
As far as taking the hills better your weights are probably to heavy and bringing down your RPMS. I would take the weights out and weigh them and try a few grams lighter weights. Alleyoop

The top one is a vent hose and shouldnt be plugged or hooked to anything. The one on the bottom is the float bowl drain. If theres not a screw on the opposite side of where that hose connects then it will need to be plugged so the fuel doesnt run out of the carb.
It sounds like a fuel supply problem to me. I would check the fuel filter and the vac lines to the fuel pump ( or vac operated petcock if its gravity fed)

Thanks for the quick Replys guys. I will check on the Vacume line. I just replaced all the fuel lines yesterday. New Filter and such The fuel pump location/mount sucks on this model as the way it is mounted the fuel line into the pump is at the bottom right next to belly pan. I will also check this out as I did end up with the line a bit kinked there when I put the belly back on so I will also recheck that maybe I can loosen that pump and turn it so that the hose is more horizontal than vertical.
On to the Variator. I did put 12 gram slidders in it this am. but with the surging sluggish ness hard to tell if it will help pulling the hills. I will keep working at it.

Ok from my other tread.
Quick question on AF mixture screw. Is this 2-1/4 to 2-3/4 turns out from being closed? Would this be a good place to start? Should I turn it all the way in closed then back out 2-1/4 and see what happens? Before I mess with settings I want to make sure I am going about this correctly. Kinda like the Measure twice cut once rule.

Yes, that is a good idea, to seat it first just in case there is a little obstruction there then back it out to 2 1/4 to 2 3/4 and try that. Alleyoop

Ok update. Ended up to dark to test drive. Without good HIDs no way I was going to go out on the Highway at night with it. So anyway. Since I had the carb out I sprayed it out good with cleaner before I put it back in. I took the vacuum line off all the way down to the pump checked over cut the old ends off to make sure that had tight fitting. Then I noticed one new vacuum line that was a bit loose and did not have any clamps on it so I put new clamps on and made sure all was tight.
Now for the A/F screw. It was 1/2 turn out Not 1 or 2. Just one half. So I screwed it in then backed it out 2 1/4 turns.
So cranked the starter a few seconds. stop crank stop (watch fuel get to carb) Then crank. Fires right up idle was very good. Shut it off. Turn the key on Hit the starter fired right up. It starts better now that it did before. Took it for a quick spin around the block seemed to be good but will not really know until I can get it out and get up to highway speed.
SO I am a bit bummed out as I really wanted to take it to work tomorrow but I do not want to take any chances until I get a chance to check out the new A/F mixture setting on carb just in case I need to adjust.

Fire it up in the morning and hit the road, Jack. It needs to run before you do any adjusting, so ride, daddy, ride, you gonna have to depend on it sometime, might as well start now.
