hi folks let me try to explain.4 or 5 months ago i bought a non running suzuki ay50 katana[2 stroke water cooled].the head gasket had blown i was told so i took the head off and sure enough there was water in there.i took the barel off to check the piston and broke one of the rings.it was nearly as cheap to buy a whole piston kit so i did.put the new piston in and it had good compression but it would not start.it seemed to be a fuel problem as the plug stayed dry everytime i tried it.i cleaned and blew out the carb a 100 times to no good.i took the reed valve off and put it into a yamaha neos i had and it worked fine.i even bought another carb and manifold of ebay and tried it today still no good[still plug dry].tried it with air filter off/on,exhaust off/on,new plug[great spark]kicked it,shouted at it,what else can i do

Shalom72c, HAHAHA!! Used to use C4 to heat up my food in Nam. Put the can on a couple of little rocks put the C4 under and light, and WHOOSH instant hot can of food.
Skikman, Have you checked the carb to see if the Bowl has fuel? from you said your carb is a CVK type throttle going into the top of the Carb. You should have TWO screws on the LEFT side one which will be in the center of the carb is your IDLE screw screw that in and it raises your idle. The other screw is your Fuel OR AIR ratio screw depending on which side of the carb its at Left toward the INTAKE manifold it will be a Fuel Ratio if on the Right Side toward the Air Filter it is a Air Ratio Screw.
1. I would try turning the Idle Screw center 1/4 turn Clockwise 2. IF Ratio screw is on the RIGHT near the Air Filter turn it Clockwise 1/4 turn to cut some air off and get more fuel. 3. If Ratio screw is on the LEFT near the INTAKE then turn it COUNTER CLOCKWISE 1/2 turn. Try that and see if you get better results. Alleyoop

Did you put the pistion in with the cut out sleeve towards the intake? Did you spray starter fluid in the carb while trying to start? On 2 stroke's you also need compression on the bottom half of the moter. check your crank seals for damage. If there is a hole or leak on the bottom half gas cant get up threw the cylender to the plug . Heath

Does it run at all with start fluid? Agree with scootsterz if you have a bad cc seal somewhere it can pull air which will ofset your mixture ratio and cause excessive lean F/A mix which will never burn.
