Another thought, these engines don't have any type of temperature sensor, right? It cant be that it is getting too hot, and then having problems?

No temperature sensor, some have a gauge on the dash that is all
Valve gaps... you need to adjust them.... could be electric also, pick-up coil, or CDI or ignition coil.
When did you change the oil last? You have not removed the black plastic around the engine?

I adjusted the valve gaps today, changed the oil a few weeks ago (maybe 200-300 miles). Black plastic around the engine??? I haven't removed anything like that, so it will have been in place since I bought it 3 years ago.
I have also purchased a CDI and ignition coil, they should be coming tomorrow or Wednesday. I tested the pickup coil using a multimeter, and from what I have been able to tell using info online, I am getting enough current generated.
What about the electric choke? If that failed, would it cause the problems I have been describing?

Does it have black plastic around the cylinder head and the cylinder? You would surprised how many people remove it... Where it says "standard GY6 engine on this photo Attachments:

Yeah, it has that. Should it be there, or should I remove it? What difference would it make in my case?

Hope so.. CDIs often get old and don't work well...
Check the colour of the spark plug.. it should be a dark brown...if it is white then you are running lean which could cause overheating.. why do you think it is overheating anyway?

I don't, I have just kinda hit the end of my rope, and was thinking of something different.

Well it could be as simple as a plugged fuel filter... replace it with one from a riding mower or snowblower...
It is really hard to diagnose this kind of thing.

I'm no expert, but I just got my Roketa Bali up and running after having similar problems. Do you have any fire to the spark plug now? Because mine would start up and run for just a few minutes/miles then die because it wasn't getting fire to the plug.
It turned out that I had a bad stator and CDI. After replacing both it purrs like a kitten.

Ok, so I got the new ignition coil and CDI installed, but now it will run, but very rough. Also, it wont idle, it only stays running if you have the throttle going a little, but it is not smooth. Sounds like maybe the carburetor needs adjusting, but I'm kinda out of ideas.

First turn up the idle so it will stay running... Start by warming it very well like for 4 minutes and then with it running adjust the air/fuel mixture. Turn the screw in or out by 1/4 turns and count to ten then listen for idle. You want to get it so it idles the fastest... Then turn the throttle screw out.. so it idles and the back wheel just starts to turn... Attachments:

Ok, so I messed with that fuel/air adjustment screw, but to no avail. If I open the throttle up, it will run, but it is very choppy, like the timing is off, or its is misfiring or something like that. I hope I didn't mess something up while I was diagnosing the problem.

Bad spark plug? Check the spark plug boot, the ignition coil.. sometime the hi tension wire gets loose.
It has to be either fuel or electrical or lack of compression.
Does it run the same way with the old CDI?maybe the ignition coil is intermittent?
Really had to narrow it down much more...could be as simple as a bad ground wire

Ok, new symptom, I changed the CDI and the ignition coil, and adjusted the fuel/air screw as described. It has been idling for 20 minutes, but as soon as I get on and try to drive, it dies. Thoughts?
