My vote pick-up coil.. check the voltage next time it stalls...you should have .5 volts or more...

I am thinking about replacing that, since it is the last of the 4 components of the sparking system.
Can I take the stator cover/flywheel off with a regular flywheel puller?

WHY??? The pick-up coil is on the outside of the flywheel. Two screws you can change it in 3 minutes... Attachments:

Ok, so I have been busy, and have recently got back to fixing my scooter. I took my voltmeter while driving one day, and after the bike died, I measured the output. The pickup was about 1.5 volts (plenty) but the stator output was less than 10 volts. I have purchased a new stator, and will be putting it in tomorrow (hopefully if it comes in the mail). I'll post the results so future generations will have access to the results.
Oh, and by the way, you can't buy just a pickup coil, at least I couldn't find a place.

So, I changed the stator and the pickup (thanks sprocket for the link, but I figured it couldn't hurt to get both) and got them installed.
The issue now is my scoot seems to idle kinda rough, and tops out between 45 and 50 mph. Before I had these problems, it would go close to 55 more smoothly. It also seems to struggle a bit more getting up to speed. Thoughts?

Have you tried re-adjusting your Carb, I am sure you had it adjusted and or adjusted to compensate when you had the bad parts on. Now it may be that it is Not adjusted correctly to match the new parts. Alleyoop

I adjusted the A/F screw, which helped the idle (that is only for the idle, right?), but it still seems slow. It feels like it has less power than it used to. Do I need to remove the vacuum cover and adjust the needle? Would that help?

No, the idle effects the power curve until about midway.. but it is always in use...

Hey cruise, I had an issue that was a little like yours. However, my bike has just over 300 miles. I adjusted the valves as suggested here .004 INCH intake (top) valve and .005 INCH (exhaust) bottom valve. And, just like you had the same issue.
However, I did not replace as many parts as you only the plug. What I found was the connection inside the spark plug wire that meets the spark plug was loose. Intermittent was loosing connection.
I made the connection firmer and adjusted the way the coil and wire was attached to the frame. And. it seems as I may have found the concern.
However, as of now I have only taken the bike on about a 15-mle ride local. You see I broke down on the road and had to be towed because the bike would not restart and I had no tools with me. I've ordered a tool roll, as soon as I get it I'm gonna pack up some tools and take a good long ride.

Hi Cruisethescoot, I seem to be having the same problem with one I just got maybe a week or to ago. For the most part it seems to run good then all the sudden, usually when its idling it just stops and then it next to impossible to get it running again. I usually have to give it a few skirts of starter fluid. One I get it going it seems to run fine until the next time. I can't think of any cowmen thing that happens at the time. It seems to just be random. After checking hoses, carb.(I even gave it a good cleaning), and carb adjusting when its running it seems to run good then all of a sudden (usually at a lower Idle) it just stalks out and is almost impossible to start again (I usually have to give it a skirt of starter fluid) then once its running it seems fine until the next time. I too am stumped. The thing that surprises me the most is that it is a brand new 2011 made in May and I received at the end of July. I would think something that new should be just a tad more reliable. I you figure it out let me know, I am also stumped as far as what could be causing this.

you have a stator issue. Your explaining classic stator symptoms. Your carb is fine. Change your stator and double check connections to and from stator.

carlster2011 When it stalls out check and see if you have spark at the plug... if you do have spark then it is probably fuel related. Starter fluid is very hard of the rubber in the carb.. better to dribble gas in one of the vacuum hoses attached to the intake elbow.. Also check your enricher if the stalling happens when the engine is cold...

just some thoughts, i would check out this video, i couldnt do a better job of explaining on how to clean the carb out. i know you probably know how to do it well, so just making sure your doing a thorough job so we can rule that out as a symptom. also your enricher might be getting stuck. i would bypass that if you are close to sea level or have warm weather mostly year round. another idea is to check for shorts. make sure to check the continuity of all of your wires. i had a power wire melt because it got too close to the little exhaust tube that recycles exhaust back into the engine just under the valve cover. i soon after replaced the wire and made sure all of my wires were zip tied tight to the frame. also, i would make sure that all of the wires going to plugs were snug, then follow up by dabbing some silicon in the plugs where the wires go into the plug so it holds them in tight. as far as the battery goes, get a new one asap. they arent cheap but you will need a new one. if you have to frequently charge your battery, chances are you have a bad cell or two. i started having to charge my battery twice a week, that turned into once a day untill i was tired of doing so. i purchased a new battery and alley helped me find out that i had a bad ground, which leads me to another mod for you to do. you should have two grounds, one close to the battery somewhere, and one on the cooling fan case. on the ground closest to the battery, take it off, sand it down to bare metal, install it again but this time add a new wire ( nice thick wire ) and run it to a bolt on the valve cover. then take the ground wire from the cooling fan case off, and run it over to the valve cover as well. somthing else to try, sometimes the magnet that passes by the pickup gets a little corroded or rusty, lightly sand it back to a shine, that will insure that you get optimum spark. just for fun, go ahead and take a peek into your CVT case =) hope something here helps you. extensive carb cleaning video: enricher bypass instructions by bashan : scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=techtips&action=display&thread=4574
