So I have a 250cc Rocketa Scooter. I have an interesting problem and I am not sure where the problem lies.
From the hours of 6am and 3pm my scooter doesn't start. It will crank and crank but never turn over. This happens at 6am through 3pm then when I get home from work around 3pm I will try again and it will start right up with out any problem and will keep turning on even when it gets dark out. even on my days off when the weather gets warmer out side the scoot will still not turn over. noon still nothing 2pm nothing 3pm boom lets go ride. This causes a problem for me because I use this for my transportation.
So things I have checked and need to check but don't know where to do it. I have read that you need things to start the bike, fuel, spark, and air. So I cleaned out the airfilter...no go, I have a full tank of gas, no go, now the spark plug I need to check and I have no idea where the stupid thing is. I have a little knowledge of where to find spark plugs say on a car, but with this scooter I have no idea. I thought it was this thing going into the carb that has a black cover on it and when I take it out it has the needle on the end of it connected to a spring but the black cover doesn't have a way of coming off. So I don't know what that is or what it is for. I see a red cable going from the battery to another part of the bike and it is too small to be a spark plug so I assume that is the starter. I look and look and nothing. Also I got some carb cleaner and some seafoam and used it yesterday when the bike was working and to no avail this morning it didn't start. Maybe I need to put more cleaner in and more seafoam maybe I didn't put enough to do the job. I am dying here trying to figure this stuff out. Please please help me. I thought maybe there was something wrong with the fuel lines or vacuum pump for the fuel but if it starts later in the day then why would it fail in the morning. I look forward to your replies and help thank you very much.

Welcome to the fun part of scooter ownership....getting it to start....not knowing what scooter you have and what engine....244cc Honda or 257cc Yamaha....the clone wars....I have a MC54B-250 (257) Roketa (Honda Majesty clone) and the valves are set to .004 intake.... .006 exhaust...look around on the forums....a ton of info awaits you.....that is the enricher that is your automatic choke that has the black cover and goes into the carb....will your engine try to turn over....during the time period that it will not start...a fully charged battery will do wonders in that department....I use a battery tender jr.....which keeps the battery conditioned for longer life...not sure about your antifreeze...use 50/50 Prestone....or any antifreeze (coolant) that is for aluminum engines...10W/40 motor oil.....transmission gear lube 75/90 wt.....DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid..change out the valve stems....I have 5600 miles on my ride and going strong....3 yrs old...keep trying you will get it going....getting the valves adjusted will cure alot of your problems...no compression....no vaccum...no fuel pump...all an engine amounts to is an air pump....

PS: how good is your battery....they are small and they loose power real fast....just a thought.....that is why I use a battery tender jr....when the bike is sitting in the garage it has charger connected....it will not over charge the battery and melt it....it works great...the first battery I had (OEM) lasted 30 months which is great...the starters hardly go bad.....check your solenoid (starter relay) it could be bad and heats up and will not start the engine...

Ok so I have looked at the pics I believe the Honda helix clone is the engine I have. Also today I was able to find the spark plug it didn't look bad but changed it anyway. The only difference was the gap it was bigger then the what the user manul said. Not by much. I also found the fuel filter and changed it as well just tkbe on the safe side. Put everything back on and of course it started it was the afternoon. The real test will be tomorrow morning when i go to woorrk. So I hope that I can get my previous questions answered now thst we have my engine type. Also I have a full charge on the battery I charge it every night with a trickle charger. I look forward to your replies.

Hopefully it'll be fixed in the morning, but I doubt it, it's rarely that easy. Quite an odd problem, are you sure you don't have a light sensitive alarm? I'd begin by doing a spark test during the day when it won't start. That should be easy on the verticle engine since the plug is easy to get to. Make sure the killswitch is set to run and crank the starter while holding the electrode of the plug against the head or any good ground. You should see a bright blue spark. Rich

Thanks Rich, I'll have to try that. After I changed everything the next day it started up no problem but with ones problem it idles real low and always wants to die even the idle is turned up all the way. Even in the aafternoon when it wad 100 degrees outside. So I came home did an oil change and a gear oil change cause it needed it bad lol. Still same idle problem tried to start it this morning its 730am MST and again no start. So damn annoying. I have all new stuff filter spark oil antifreeze air filter everything it needs tto start just no turn oh yeah full battery. Maybe the starter is bad or the relay should I check that somehow. I just want it to start and that's it.

I think whatever is causeing your IDLE TO BE really LOW is the Culprit. Especailly if you have the IDLE SPEED SCREW turned in all the way. Can you take a picture of the Carb and hoses around it as well as the Air Filter. Now by turning the IDLE SPEED screw all the way in CLOCKWISE what that is doing is OPENING up the BUTTERFLY. Which is letting a lot of air in and LESS gas is being sucked in. Actuall haveing the Butterfly almost closed ACTS as a CHOKE only exposeing the TINY PILOT JET OUTLET holes by the BUTTERFLY. It could be the TINY holes are BLOCKED, I would take the Carb off and BOWL off then take the PILOT JET OUT and SPRAY INTO the JET Passage. Take a Small Needle and Poke the TINY holes by the Butterfly and When you Spray Into the PILOT JET HOLE Spray should come out through the TINY HOLES HERE: Alleyoop

Thank you for that i will try that next. I ordered an automatic choke on line from ebay cause a lot of people are telling me that may be the problem like the needle thingy is in the extended position and is causing no air to get in resulting is low idle and not starting in the morning. I should get the piece by Wednesday or thursday. If that doesn't help then I will try your way. Except I am not sure I know how to remove the carb and bowl. The air filter should be fine I just cleaned it except when i did it didn't seem all that dirty which caused me some concern. Thank you for your replies I could be a certified scoot tech soon just from what I've done with this bike lol. I'll keep ypu all posted.

Dojomo007, If that is the way the ENRICHER looks like when you took it OFF COLD it is BAD. It is in the EXTENDED POSITION which means it is NOT LETTING EXTRA FUEL TO GO into the INTAKE for COLD STARTS.
I bet when you get the NEW ENRICHER CHOKE it will start, then you can let it idle and get warm about 5 minutes and then you can adjust your Carb properly.
Just be ready to LOWER THE IDLE USING THE IDLE SPEED screw that is the SCREW with the SPRING on it. Because you mentioned you had it turned all the way in so if it starts with the gas coming in it will IDLE WAY UP. You may want to turn it Counter CLockwise some before you start it. Alleyoop

Yeah it looks like that when its cold. I have one order from ebay so I'm hoping that fixes everything you think that will fix the idle problem too. I hope so the jet thing you mentioned seems complicated. I got some sea foam that should help clear those jets right. I just put it in the gas tank and go I hope lol. Thanks for your help. I'll keep you posted.

Also I was looking over some things on my scooter, and have figured out that the engine is the yamaha linahi clone not the honda helix clone. My bad but I still think this new choke once arrived will help it. Just wanted to update that info in case any of you are following my progress and need to give any additional tips. Thanks guys.
