Well to put a shut off valve you do have one little problem and that is THAT your current PETCOCK actully attachs to the TANK. So you would need to get an extension that screws into the Tank with a NIPPLE on it to put a hose on it and a clamp. Then you can put a nice long hose and then the Shut off Valve. But you can hunt for one or actually take the OLD PETCOCK to a hardware store to see if they have something with the right size Nut to screw back onto the tank with an extension on it for a HOSE to fit on. Then you will be ready if need be. OK FOUND HOW YOU CAN DO IT: 49ccscoot.com/manfuel.htmlAlleyoop

Thanks Alleyoop. I'll keep that in mind for if the new petcock kicks the bucket. Go back to my last post at the end of page 13 I just added pics. I'm done for the day Oh so that's supposed to be a fuel filter? The one I got is a clear plastic tube piece that looks like that, but it is open on one and and totally closed on the other end with nothing in it, just hollow. I have no idea what its for or how it works but I figured I would figure it out when I open up the scooter and look at the other one. I didn't know if it was like a dud ( malformed one) or what.... or maybe I'm supposed to use the one already on the scooter and they just gave me that piece to hold the new little rubber washer on... no clue

If it has screens on the actual tube for fuel to get into the tube YES. If it IS NOT a fuel Filter then NO. Most I have seen just have a tube so that any sediment on the bottom of the tank does not go down into the fuel line.
That is why some have the Fuel Filter Between the TANK and the Petcock and NOT between the Petcock and the Carb. So if there is crap in the tank the Fuel Filter will trap it before it gets to the PETCOCK and or Carb. Alleyoop Alleyoop

ONE END IS CLOSED?? Which end was sticking out the Closed End or Open End. I think your supposed to cut it to length THE CLOSED END PART OF COURSE. But that is just so it sticks into the tank so sediment at the bottom of the tank DOES NOT get into your fuel lines and or Petcock and block it. Which may be your current PETCOCK problem. Alleyoop

Gotcha. Ya I have that fuel filter in the line. I was trying to figure out what the plastic thing was they sent with it because it seemed pointless/useless. The closed end is sticking out. It doesn't even remotely snap in to the petcock tight. See Video. I see what you are saying. So it only needs to stick up from it a little I guess, just so stuff can't get trapped in the petcock. I can't wait to see what's up with it when I get in there, IF it tells me Video: Hahaha. I said maybe it's a fake one. I feel silly now I'm sure once I get the old one out and see how its in there, I'll figure more out Experience is the best teacher.. well tied for the best teacher w/ Alleyoop OOOOO I looked close, it looks like it has tiny fine screens in the sides of the clear tube going around it. Hmmm with the rubber washer pushed down to the base it seems like it holds it a little better. We will have to just try it all out Hehe. Thanks again for your help

Its just a screen to keep the big stuff out. They are pretty common on older motorcycles and were mainly used on the reserve side of the petcock. On these scoots they have a fuel gauge instead of a reserve and they all draw from the bottom of the tank. Personally I remove the screen. Its a lot easier to replace an inline filter that clogs than it is to remove the petcock to clean the screen.
The alternative for going to a manual fuel valve is to remove the diaphram from the vac petcock and plug one of the nipples. Then all ya gotta do is add an inline shutoff valve. easy peasy ;D

I would just leave it off and since your going to drain the tank if anything is in there it will come. Alleyoop

Drove to the gym ( 15 blocks ) and it went fine. Was going to put some gas in the gas line before driving back as driving back seems to be when I have trouble ( I only get about 1.5 good trips before it starts again) and I opened the fuel line below the filter and fuel stared pouring out ( scooter wasn't on ) I said okay I guess its getting gas today. The fuel guage was acting totally normal too ( which it hasn't in over a week) Go figure. The fuel tank read 1/2 full, gonna drive it until its empty and then work on the petcock Until then, the emergency gas and syringe is in the trunk

Yea that petcock is toast fuel should NOT pour out only what is in the line and or Fuel Filter. It appears sometimes it flows and other times it doesn't. But you got it licked now with that DEADLY SYRINGE . Alleyoop

Yes. I have that for now. I'm worried about it not stopping when it flows and like flooding the scooter. Not sure if that can happen or how that works Also my main concern with the hurricane coming my way is the scooter getting knocked over, but I found a spot between a group of mailboxes and a tree where I can bungee cord the hell out of it. The front tire goes right up to the post for the mailboxes which is in concrete and the back tire goes right up to the tree
