Hi all, here's a good one. I have a new (showing .4 kmh) Taotao 50cc, the start button does not work, but if you pull on either brake handle OR use Left turn signal, the scooter starts. And after starting and running, if you use either brake or the left turn, the starter engages. I have removed all plastic, I have traced the harness from one end to the other. I can not not find any shorts, loose connections or plugs. I called Taotao, they were very rude. They have sent 3 harnesses now and none are the right one. Has anyone ever heard of this before or know where I can order the correct harness? Thanks

I don't think a new harness is required. Does the left blinker work if ya hit the start??? It maybe just a few crossed wires connected to the wrong switches. I don't see a reason to rewire the whole scoot ( A very big Job) If a simple rewiring of the switches will fix the problem.

Here's what I would do: pull every scrap of wiring off of it and don't take any notes or pictures. Then use all black wire when you try to put it back together....but that's just me. KIDDING! How about this? Take the plastic of around the handlebars and front cowling. Now, pull one wire at a time and see what happens. When you pull the one that disables the starter you're getting close. Gee, TaoTao was rude!? I am absolutely stunned!

Thanks, we have done all of that. All connections are as they should be, I have replaced the CDI, the volt reg and the starter relay. most connections under the plastic are different and can not be crossed.

sorry, yes, when signal is turned on, the left blinks as it should, but everytime it blinks, the starter engages. The right turn signal works as it should.

seeing how I have now removed all plastic, removed all wire loom and zip ties, spent about 8 hours now looking this thing over, trying this wire here and that wire there, I would gladly put a new harness on it.

I think the problem is in the ground. There is probably a green wire hooked up incorrectly some ware. The starter relay is powered any time the switch is on and the button actually completes the ground. The easy fix would be run a new ground wire from the start button to the starter relay. I can give you some better instruction after work today as I have the same scoot sitting in my garage.

Since your that far into it, have you thought of putting a kill switch to the starter? All you need now is to have to buy a started and that will happen if it keeps trying to start a running engine.
