I'm a newbie at both this site and on working on things, but I had similar problems with my MC-54-250B. Adjusting the valves was suggested to me and that fixed my problem. Good Luck

When was the last time you adjusted the valves, also how many miles on the scoot. First you want to Adjust your valves Top Intake to .004" and Bottom Exhaust to .005". Then see if it still acts up on you we can work on the Carb, check the ENRICHER if it is working and adjusting the Carb. Alleyoop

Yep adjusting the valves will do wonders for the scoot with that many miles and not knowing when they were last adjusted. Alleyoop

Are you sure you actually have gas in the tank? The gauges are way off on all the scoots. Some will read 1/2 tank and you are actually empty.
If your running rich turn the Fuel Ratio Screw CLockwise 1/4 at a time and see how it runs. Alleyoop

Just so you know, when you first start a scoot in the summer time when it is hot, the ENRICHER(CHOKE) is feeding it more extra fuel for starting. And since in the SUMMER time the engine needs less gas you will smell gas due to the ENRICHER(CHOKE) feeding it more fuel. But after it gets warm 3-4 minutes the ENRICHER(CHOKE) will shut off the EXTRA fuel and you then should not smell gas. Alleyoop
NO if no cap that is OK it must of fallen out or the last owner never put it back on.
