Wow, i wish I saw these kinds of deals. By me in the NYC metropolitan area they sell well used chinese scoots for more than you could buy them new!!

My worst was when I hit a deer but thankfully all the damage was done to the scooter and not me. Glad to see that you are still able to come on line and type after that terrible accident, and wishing you a speedy recovery!

Hello all, and happy new year. I have not posted in a long while because thanks to you all I'm over 13,000 trouble free miles (or at least 13,000 miles that are within my ability to fix).
So after nearly 13,000 on my rock hard Chinese front tire it was all cupped so I put on a new Shinko SR429. I had had the back tire mounted with the same tire a while ago, but this time I went to the local honda dealer because he was closer to me (and cheaper). He mounted the tire but it would not hold air and leaked at the rim. There was a dent in the rim, but I could not understand why the chinese tire seemed to sit fine on the same rim.
I got a new front rim and this time mounted the tire myself. Sure enough, the tire leaks at the new rim also. My guess now is that it is either a bad tire or the guy at the honda place damaged the tire. I ordered a new tire and will have it mounted by my old guy and see what happens.
I was wondering if anyone had ever gotten a "bad" tire because it did not seem likely to me. I could have bent the new rim when I put the tire on with the tire spoons i guess (wow was that hard) but I don't see it and it just seemed unlikely that it would leak on both rims.
Thanks all!!!
-Mike

I put on Michelins and they wore out very quickly, maybe 1500+ miles. I now have on Shinko SR429's and so far they've outlasted the Michelins with no real sign of wear. Lovin' them.

Here's the oem part number: 22123-KN7-671
Maybe you can find a site that has the spec for them.

Hi. This is not my scooter, but I was curious after your question and found several sites that say "the ’85 Elite 150 takes 20×15 roller weights." I also found a link to a repair manual in case you find that helpful. www.hondaspree.net/other/Elite_CH150-H_Service_Manual_85-86.pdfI'll post again if I find something more definitive. I did not read the manual but i'm sure its in there somewhere. -Mike

Well it turns out there are 11 bolts, and the 11th was in the center under the glued on foam. There is a bolt next to it and I was too stupid to think that there was anything under the foam. So I have the cover off, but I cracked it around and in or so right in the center by the bolt. I'm thinking that I can fill in the crack with epoxy and still use it since there is still more than enough here to hold it.
AND - Problem solved. the transmission elements are fine - the teeth inside the rear wheel ground down and the spindle no longer caught on them.
So . . . . while I'm here I'll put in the sliders and I guess I should inspect the clutch since I shudder on takeoff. The belt looks pristine. Leave it or change it anyway?

Thanks John. Sliders came this morning along with the belt. I'm a little bummed that Scrappy's site had a picture of a Mitsuboshi belt but I was sent a "goldsl" no name belt. for no name I could have saved $10 on the net. It also doesn't' have the dimensions on it.
I'll get going on this again in the morning.

Thanks alley. 10 means they're all off. I didn't think about the gasket - Shouldn't I replace that while I'm in there too? I thought the rule was not to reuse a gasket but I'm thinking back to auto shop days.
Just back in - that is not coming apart with gentle blows, that's for sure. I'll need to look for the best spot to get some leverage.

I haven't posted here in a while, which is a good thing because I haven't been having any trouble.
Now I'm trying to get to the variator and clutch on the Vog 260. I removed all the screws and covers on the crankcase cover, and I removed 10 8mm bolts from the cover but its not budging. The only things I see that could still be removed are some of the bolts holding on the fuel pump and one engine mount, but none of them are on the cover itself as far as i can see. Also, the YP250 manual notes 11 bolts, not 10, but I'll be damned to find that extra.
Any insights or thoughts? My research so far just has people saying "hit it with a hammer" which i even tried. thanks in advance.

Had another wonderful commute to work, even arriving late to take the long way around on a lovely morning. Every day, twice a day as long as the roads are dry.

I too am very sad about scootdawg's demise. Even though a lot of the info is still accessible with some creative googlling, many of the pictures have been lost. I really liked the deep history.
