Funny you should say that, because there may be more play in the rear wheel than there used to be. I am not sure, because I don't remember what it was like, but it seemed like there was more than there should have been. Thing is, I have all the spacers that there should be, and the wheel was right off the same bike, so I don't know how to account for extra play. Hmmmmmmmmmm

I am still rebuilding my scooter from a horrendous pothole incident I had in early December. The hole was so deep that not only did I bend my rear rim beyond repair, it even cracked one of the three spokes. It also caused some body panels to break and some to actually shear off. I replaced the rim, and also replaced the rear bearing which was frozen, and now I'm working on the body.
Here's the thing - I find now that when I'm riding and then accelerate, there is a slight but noticeable little "twist" or "jerk" in the handlebars (to the right if that matters). Same thing happens when I'm at speed and then back off the throttle. I wonder if I'd even notice it if the scoot was new, but having ridden for a long time its definitely there. All else is ok. I was wondering if I had bent a front or rear axle, but I can't tell visually. Thought I'd throw the question out there before I start pulling everything apart.
Its a Vog 260 with a Linhai engine. thanks in advance all!!

Back to the topic though, do you need to change any of the carb jets to use this muffler? Also, can you link to a representative example of this muffler? there are so many out there. Thanks in advance, and good job with the mod. Sounds awesome.

I was just researching this, and here it is. Wondering if anyone has a recommendation of one brand of paint over another. thanks. Looks like rustoleum is carried by the most places, but maybe someone has had some experience since this post.

I'd stick will Alley's suggestion first before you bother with draining the tank. A properly adjusted carb cures a world of troubles.

If you don't mind taking a step back for me, when I adjusted the valves on my 257cc Linhai type last year I found TDC by using the arrow marking only. I did not expose the timing chain or anything. I couldn't have done anything too wrong since my scooter works fine, but am I to understand from this string that the arrow is actually not a proper way to go? I learned how to do it from the internet in the first place so I could have taken the advice of a dunce, making me a dunce once removed. Thanks in advance so I'll know for the next time.

Either I get people who think my scoot is the greatest thing ever or they give me the chinese junk rap based on their "friend's" experience. If they're capable of rational thought, I tell them what I paid and that the thing about these scooters is that in exchange for the low price you need to do the basic prep yourself that a dealer would otherwise have done. If you don't mind, its a wonderful and reliable investment. Others won't have their minds changed which there's nothing you can do about that. I love love love my scooter. I will say that I dropped out of a scooter group on Facebook because of some abusive chinese haters who just wouldn't give it up.

I just read that and left a message. What nonsense. Not even a nod to lower priced scoots? If you are going to spend $6000 on a scooter to save gas, you might as well stay in your car.

Gas in Jersey is a little cheaper - I can still get regular for $3.69 if I pay cash. I just did a little back-of-the-envelope calculation, and at this price I pay about $25.25 in gas per month just to commute on the scooter vs. $74.00 per month on my car. Since I ride every day, that's $600/yr savings just for the commute!! Not to mention the fun and incidental errands and trips. This is the best hobby I ever took up, hands down.

You want to set the ilde at a point just below where the rear wheel will spin. Like bobf says, put the bike on the stand and let it get nice and warm. If the rear wheel is spinning, decrease the idle till it stops. You should give the screw a 1/4 turn then wait a second to see what happens, and repeat. If the wheel is not spinning, do the reverse. A Linhai engine should be happy to idle around 1800 rpm.
