Hello Again Everyone, My friend just got a 2012 50cc Renegade scooter. It is an awesome looking scooter. (see picture) It has only about 10 miles on it. The problem is that once we try to start the scooter, it runs crappy and shuts off until it warms up. It will then run ok once it is warmed up until we try to start it again the next day. It then does the same thing. I was told that the choke may not be working properly. I myself was thinking maybe a dirty carb or it may need a valve adjustment? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks KEV Attachments:

Sure sounds like the ENRICHER may be not working. Before you go and start it take the ENRICHER off and the Plunger SHOULD BE RETRACTED to feed it Extra Fuel for Cold Starts. It should look like this: ENRICHER RECTRACTED FOR COLD STARTS: IF IT LOOKS LIKE THIS WHEN YOU TAKE IT OFF IT IS BAD: If it is RETRACTED then the carb needs adjustment: Turn the Fuel Ratio Mixture screw Clockwise until it stops then Turn it COUNTER CLOCKWISE 2 1/2 turns and try that. You can always fine tune it but your trying to get it to start when Cold. Alleyoop

Thanks, we will try that tomorrow. We had already tried to adjust the idle screw but that did not help at all. We also changed the spark plug, so we got a bit stuck as to what to do next. Thanks for the advice!!

The IDLE SCREW just raises the IDLE the problem appears to be not enough gas for cold starts. That is a different screw its the FUEL RATIO Mixture screw on the Left side of the Carb. See the picture so you know the parts of the carb: Alleyoop LEFT SIDE OF CARB: RIGHT SIDE OF CARB:

Oh, ok. I knew they were different. I just thought that I'd mention that we tried the idel screw and changed the spark plug as to give you an idea to what we had tried to do before asking for advice. Just forgot to mention in my first post.
Thanks so much for the pictures though, I am hoping i have enough ink in my printer to print them out for future reference.
I will let you know what happens. We will try to get to it tomorrow or Tuesday.

Hi Guys, Well, it took us longer than expected but we finally got to check out the scooter. The enricher was fine so I am thinking we may need to check the fuel mixture adjustment screw. This may sound very strange but for the life of me we could not find it!! I am not sure if we have a different carb? Also kinda wondering if something was in the gas tank. Wondering if draining and replacing the gas a good idea. Thanks Kev Attachments:

I'd stick will Alley's suggestion first before you bother with draining the tank. A properly adjusted carb cures a world of troubles.

Some of the newer carbs have a cap over the adjustment screw and you would have to drill to get to it. I would suggest adjusting your valves before you do anything else. It can also cause the symptoms you're having. Rich
