I saw several member paint there muffler so I decided to follow suite.I make no claims to be a pro at this but I did spend a lot of time on it. The sanding was the longest. I picked up some 1500 degree grill paint from wally-world and BAMM! good as new. Does it look better with or without the heat guard. I left the chrome piece that goes on the very end of the muffler off. It was just to nasty to put back on. I would paint the chrome piece also and continue to use it.

Hell yeah, tommy! Stove black FTW!
Did mine the same way...have to give it a little shot now and then just to touch up scratches and what not, but it should handle the temps just fine.

I would paint the chrome piece also and continue to use it. Should I try to find chrome paint, or just use the black for the extra piece?

You should be able to just black it. My experience so far is to use the term "chrome" extremely loosely when referring to any chinascoot's OEM hardware. Chi-chrome? Pseudo-chrome? ;D At any rate, I haven't had any problems getting stove black to stick to any chi-chrome widgets like you would a real stainless or chromed surface. You could hit it with some really fine grit sandpaper or emory cloth to help it tack if you're that worried, if the 'nastiness' you referred to is rust, or if by chance the first coat doesn't tack.

Personnaly I like the chrome on it. Alleyoopl I like the shiny diamond guard too, but I think there was another shroud around the little outlet pipe that was actually the problem. "Too nasty to put back on", for unspecified reasons. Rust, perhaps? Mine was the same way, a lil' stove black cured it right up.

yea I meant it was umm "chini-chrome" with several "ameri-rust" spots coming through.. I think i will just rough it up with same sandpaper and black it . that will just leave the heat guard looking chome-ish.

I was just researching this, and here it is. Wondering if anyone has a recommendation of one brand of paint over another. thanks. Looks like rustoleum is carried by the most places, but maybe someone has had some experience since this post.

it will probably hold up fine. Mine on the other hand does not hold up with grill paint. I have a small briggs muffler and it gets lots hotter than my grill paint will handle.
