I'm not a firm believer in all this Global Warming stuff, especially since it's 38 degrees here right now, but I keep reading and seeing pictures of melting polar ice caps. It won't hurt anybody to switch to smaller vehicles and two wheeled transportation if it keeps carbon dioxide from hitting the atmosphere in waves. Plenty of smaller SUVs out there to drive two miles to the grocery store in.

it always seems when there is a real hot summer or real cold winter the average yearly temp seems to always be about the same. looks like we will see a cold winter this year. those polar caps are melting at record speed. global warming is hard to say that it does not exist. cutting the worlds forests down is speeding the process as the trees absorb vast amounts of co2/. john

Who made you the"waste" police? Like I said earlier, this is a free country so you can do the things that are right for your family. Don't need some do gooder telling us what to do, that is why I used the offensive word liberals because they are always telling others what they should be doing and trying ro control how we live, just look at the Washington establishment and how they are limiting are choices. I will bet you love Obama care.

Sorry, not buying it. Most of the people driving Ford Expedtions don't need a giant engine to get to work. This crap about big cars being better in an accident is a myth. People are flipping the things every day because they're so sure bigger is better. A Kia Sportage would work just fine if they didn't fall for all the "I need to protect myself" nonsense. If you need to pull an Airstream or Donzi-fine. But to get groceries. A Subaru Outback has more cargo space with all the seats up.

It seems to me that conservatives, whatever the hell that term means, are just as vehement about jambing their agenda down other folks throats as the "do gooders". But as a guy that's in health care I gotta tell you, health care in this country is a travesty. I deal with people all the time that obviously need surgery and I have absolutely no place to send them because they can't afford health insurance. It's easy for you to sit back and say "it's his problem, let him deal with it". Well I'm the guy that has to watch their quiet desperation grow as they realize they have absolutely no place to turn to get help. And if you think I can just walk back to my office and forget about them you are sorely mistaken, it haunts me everyday. Obama care, what Obama care? Nothing has changed at my office or any other doctors I know, if anything health care coverage is worse than it's ever been. But we sure wouldn't want to tax the mega-wealthy a little more to help these folks out would we? It's easy to write these people off as lazy welfare creeps but I assure you, most are responsible people backed into a corner; and I'm the guy that's got to look them in the eyeballs. Hey, you better hurry and get to your TV, those wealthy idiots on Fox & Friends are about to start their daily tirade. Rich

We can debate/discuss all day and it will not change the habits of the barge drivers. Anybody remember the one somewhere where some country did the thing of a one day trial of putting the vehicle in neutral at traffic lights? Cap if the barge drivers would do that it would save mega gallons of the over expensive fuels. Mama waiting for their kiddies at school and running the barge for heat or A/C? Phhhhhh mama doesnt care papa buys the fuel. Mama also insists it is not safe for Baby brat to walk home, but then again those mamas are the ones that had their darling daughters in makeup, short skirts, training bras at the age of 9 or so. Anyone can justify anything so its just all in the realm of what they want not what they need. Final soundoff on this is so many of us forget there are incomes that are big bucks and they just dont care about economics, Obama health, and the sad view of not caring about the other guy.

I just wish some car maker would make a basic car. wind up windows, no radio, 1000cc motor(or less), and keep the body style for at least 10 years. I have owned 4 in that category and would buy another in a heart beat if there was one. in 89 I bought a 88 new yugo. don't laugh...once I worked out a couple small problems it was one of the best cars I ever had. I paid 2800 brand new when other small cars were 5500-6500. A yugo was a re-badged 65 fiat that could pass pollution built in Yugoslavia. I put about 65,000 miles on it and then traded it for the drywall work on this house i live in now. I have 9 1/2 ft ceilings here so I could not do it my self. john

Tata has a cheap, basic car that they sell everywhere but here. I'm a glutton for punishment and can't wait for the Chinese to start selling their cars here. tatanano.inservices.tatamotors.com/tatamotors/

I am going to add that I see both sides of the issue. With the freedoms that we have comes great responsibility and a necessity to make hard choices as to how we exercise them.It is true that America has the energy reserves to maintain our present usage for 100 or more years, but what do we do when those are gone and we have made no provisions to replace those technologies with more viable life-friendly ones? I also think that it is childish and disingenuous to say," To hell with you I am going to drive what I want and you can`t do a damn thing about it. " As an aside, I am very conservative both fiscally and socially, so there is no need to call me names that are inaccurate.I am an a$$hole and a jerk but not a liberal/progressive. Somethings are just right and transcend labels and being better stewards of our existing resources is one of those things. But, I do not believe that global warming is created/caused by man just maybe exacerbated by us.

Well said, where did all these labels with the negative connotations come from anyway? The nattering nabobs that want you to be angry and polarized so they can make a fortune selling books and attracting viewers, that's who. Most social issues are complex and can't be boiled down to left or right as hard as the TV big mouths try. Every action and policy decision has consequences for all of us. We need to try to reach a consensus on the common good vs our rights and liberties, a balance. We've lost that concept in this country and that's tragic. Rich
