I only have about 965 miles on it and it has been starting (cranking) just a bit sluggishly for the last few starts. Now it won't even try to start. I have the fan hot wired where it always runs (per the vendor mechanic's suggestion back when it used to run hot). So when I turn the key on, the fan comes on, the horn blows, the right brake lights up, but the left one don't. That's the one used to actually start it. So I'm thinking the problem is somewhere in the rear braking mechanism. I checked all the fuses under the seat and they look fine. Any suggestions or details on how to repair this problem?

Sounds like a ground issue, check all your grounds and just for good measure attach a new ground from your engine to the frame.

Will the starter work using the RIGHT BRAKE? If it does and it does not work with the Left Brake then the Left Brake switch could be bad. You could try squirting a little WD-40 where the Brake pushs in the Switch on the Left Brake.
DOES the Engine Turn OVER when you squeeze the brake and hit the start button? Hard starting you may need to adjust the valves. Alleyoop

No it won't start using the right brake and the engine won't turn using the left like it supposed to (it doesn't even click....only the fan comes on). I will try the WD-40 squirt when I get home from work tonight.

If the starter relay doesn't click, check the fuse located in the relay's connector. I had a ground problem that I resolved by running a 12ga. wire from one of the mounting bolts on the starter to the ground connection on the frame by the battery.

To my knowledge it has always started only with the left hand brake as it's more convenient seeing as how the starter button is on the right with the throttle. I checked the brake levers and after spraying a little lubricant on them, neither one will light up the rear break lights now. Thus no start. I'm new at this and I am mechanically inclined, but just don't know where to locate all these items right off. I've trying to remove one of the main rear panels so I can get to the motor, but taking the trunk off the rear just to get the one panel off is a pain...........are there any short cuts to removing them?

first off try a paper clip into the wires that are hooked to the brake switch to see if the switch is bad then pull the seat box out and ground the selanoid to see if it starts then start at battery with an ohm metter and look for current on the selanoid thats where i would start out at

How do I remove the cover that's holds the instrument cluster?? I'm trying to get to all the wiring underneath. I've already removed the front cover and windshield but can't seem to get the other cover off. I've also replaced the CDI and still no start but only turns over when I jump the solenoid switch. I think the left switch is bad at the brake because no brake light when depressed...........please help guys....I need to get this baby running again. Thks.

Where would you use the wd 40 front handlebars or back brake area?
