This happens quite a bit, just keep in mind that it was perfect before and something changed after the filter. This is usually caused by lean running due to an air leak before the carb air inlet on the filter side. Recheck all of your clamps and hoses and make sure nothing came loose. Also, sometimes while pushing and pulling on the carb a vac hose comes loose or even the intake manifold develops a leak. Check in front of the carb and make sure everything is tight and the bolts holding the intake manifold are snug; just snug, don't get too carried away. If all of that looks good check back, there's some tests to run. Rich

What kind of air filter? Most aftermarket air filters that work, like UNIs and K&N, require that they be oiled with the correct filter oil...the ones that don't..like the cheap knock-offs are just about useless at filtering out dust...might as well run with no filter at all...
Put the stock airbox back on and your problem will likely go away...

Silly Sprocket, he mentioned he put the stock back on..lol. maybe you unplugged a vacuum line by mistake when you put the new filter on?

some do not like using either but it serves me well. to find an air leak you take a spray can and spray all around the base of carb and all vacuum lines with engine idling. if the engine speed goes up or down you have found an air leak. even water mist will work for this. wd40, carb cleaner, penetrating oil. and ether. the rubber manifold has a bad habit of getting hair line cracks.

Sorry I missed the fact that you put the stock air back on... If you don't anchor the front of the carb when you run another filter like a UNI then this can happen... Attachments:

Even scooter Gods make mistakes I check for cracks often on all rubber/plastic pieces.

Use the spray can test. I found out the O-ring under the intake manifold was bad that way. The stock air box stays with the frame, the carb sways with the engine putting strain on all the rubber bits.

If the air box is on the side of the CVT it moves with the engine. If it is mounted to the frame like under the seat etc, I use a piece of vacuum cleaner hose, which you can but at Home Depot etc.. for shop vacuum systems etc... very cheap and flexible, never had one crack...and you can get a number of different diameters.. I think 1-3/4" would be perfect...couple of hose clamps and you are done...
Some people use 'universal' type rad hoses... more expensive but they work well also.

I use spa hose from Home Depot. Cheap and indestructible. I installed 1.75 inch and it works perfect. I need to color it black very soon. Fit perfect on my K&N filter. I have not secured it yet. The current state of my baby.
