You lost all credibility with that.
Yeah, 125,000 miles on my last motorcycle and I've lost all credibility with someone who doesn't know that the Kymco Agilities, Super 8s and Like 200 are built in their China plant as are the SYM Fiddle II s, Mio and the scooters they build for Tomos. Oh, and BMW 650 singles are built where?
Read further back. I owned a Big Ruckus, it blew up and now is someone elses headache. You know as well as I do my point was that Honda couldn't compete, price wise, with their 250s and no longer sell them. As for a handful of people topping 20,000 miles on China scoots. Try reading somewhere besides here and at Dumba$$ Dawg.
If you bought your Suzukis online you'd have to do a substantial PDI. Why do you think they charge you $750 freight and prep for a new one? They don't roll out of the crate fault free. Dealers don't just pop the mirrors on and sell it to you.
You sound just like the Euro snobs who told me that my 1974 Kawasaki 500 triple wouldn't last a week. 30,000 miles later they shut up too.
I'll still have my Chinese scooter in 30,000 miles too, on the original engine, piston, bearings and valves. I'm laughing at all the people who think that you have to buy a Japanese scooter to get reliable performance and spend a bundle for it. I'd go twice as far on a Chinese 250 and I wouldn't have to fiddle with it either.
I just bought a 1981 Yamaha 250 for $225 after the Big Ruckus toothache, got it running, and it will outlast any Japanese scooter, oh wait it already has. Try and find a Japanese 250 scooter that runs after 30 years. I'll bet there are two or three around.
No credibility. 50 years riding and fixing motorcycles and you think I don't know what I'm talking about? Rich will rip off a quick 10k on his Fashion and we'll see who's superior.

Oh, and something else. We don't flame each other on this forum. That's what Dumbdawg is for. My comment about "Superiority of China scoots" was tongue in cheek. Anybody who's laid a wrench on these things knows about crumbling plastic and third rate electrical connections. The basic structures are sound. Engines, carburetors and drive gears all work. Given that, these platforms will run a good long time with proper care and usage. Most of the problems you read about with China scoots are by people who ride them like motorcycles or don't know that even Suzuki says "Most electrical problems are bad connections, not faulty components".
My Problem, if you can call it that is that as an old time, grease under my fingernails motorcyclist is with this whole generation of riders who think two wheeled vehicles should be like cars. Turn the key and go, give them to someone else to fix when they hiccup and send me the bill.
What it's given us is water cooled, fuel injected, electronic ignitioned and variable valve timing monstrosities that can only be fixed with a computer and a team of NASA technicians and riders who are no more involved with their bikes than they are with their cars. A pretty good definition of a Vespa owner and most Japanese vehicle owners.
I can cope with my China scoot when it breaks down. It's a carbureted lawn mower with rubber band drive. I've seen cutaways of Japanese scooter engines and drivetrains. I know from experience that the more pieces you have the more chance of something going wrong in the long run.

that pretty well sizes it up kz. Simple is always better. I started with a twist and go scooter in 1958 and probably finish with one very much the same. I sure wish they would put a gy6 in an enlarger though. But where they sell the most of those scooters isn't here and the gy6 sure works in Asia/
Last night I looked at %$#@dawg for the first time in months! looks like they have made some changes. still got all the idiots there too. john

Wow, are you ever clueless! How could anyone make such an ignorant statement. KZ started a good discussion that obviously was of interest to several folks. There is no reason to try to get demeaning and abusive in a forum debate. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and common courtesy is expected on this forum. Jeff, the quoted comments warrant an apology. Rich

Ok, ok, my comment about Burgman riders was also tongue in cheek.
"an elite corps of effete snobs and nattering nabobs" is a quote from Spiro Agnew when he described a hostile press.
I apologize if I offended any effete snobs, but the nattering nabobs can go straight to hell!

kz, I don't know who put the chip on your shoulder but it wasn't me. Everyone including Rich took your post as serious, not tongue in cheek, especially after your previous rant about the cost of Vespas. I'm glad you're happy with your chinese scooters, I was too when I had them but after riding a burgman and majesty I couldn't get rid of the chinese stuff fast enough. It's a world of difference. Just my opinion though, and everyone has one.
Rich... I will not apologize in any way. kz is the one with an attitude problem. You can delete my account.

As an impartial observer, a few comments from the peanut gallery watching this. Ive owned and even ridden all, rofl, including the big 4 and Harley. ( MONEY PIT). Vespa loks like a fantastic ride, but also priced up there. Price Chinese, best bang for the buck. Drivetrain, well done. Plastics, face it its plastic. Electrical, sub standard thin copper connections poor workmanship in that department. All in all for the price just fine. As far as the argument both have good points, none are non valid. Re: the other site, or sites all opinions count some good some bad but this is America and that is great.
