Idle -Carburetor question By Kaveman (Read 1,667 times)

Tho my stella is a 2 stroke Idle , carb adjustments should be simmilar to 4 stroke gy6 correct ? Scoot runs fine then at a stop light it starts to sputter , then dies when I try to throttle up. Then takes 4 to 5 times on the kickstart to get then engine back running . Could the carb be set too rich ? Any advice would be much appreciated.

There must be a throttle adjustment screw somewhere on the carb, perhaps on the throttle cable etc.. you need to get in there and have a look...I doubt very much it is anything like a GY6

Pulled the plug earlier tonight . Plug end was and is black . I'll need to lean the air/fuel out abit correct ? Checking the mix via the plug end color ? All in and 1 1/2 turns out to start ? Before this the engine idle wasn't working as it should have. Being too rich may have been the culperet to my issues I am now having. One more question , Do you have to richen up the air/fuel when at higher altitudes ? The previous owner had this scoot in Denver before moving to the lower 2600ft here in Boise

Will, do you have a SLIDER type carb(throttle is going into the top of the carb) OR is it a CVK carb like NORMAL(HEHE). If you can take a picture of the LEFT side of the carb. If it is a slider some have just and AIR RATIO MIXTURE and NOT a FUEL RATIO MIXTURE and some do have a Fuel Ratio mixture(THE SCREW WILL BE NEAR THE INTAKE MANIFOLD). If its an AIR FUEL MIXTURE it will be NEAR THE AIR FILTER SIDE.

Set the mixture where you get the highest RPMS at IDLE. Since the PLUG was BLACK it is running rich you need to lean it out some.

I found the air fuel mix screw on the side of the carb earlier today . I'll try to get some more info for the forum. I am not dealing with the same type of Carb I had on my roketa . It's either a d@#$ italian made carb or a d#*& Indian made copy of the italian one. The idle adjustment screw is on top of the carb cover that covers the air filter .

The same sparkplug coloring from the 4 cycle gy6 still applies to the 2cycle carb I now have in the stella . This engine also has a 3 port , reed type valve and no overhead camshaft, timing chain or valves . That in itself does help when upgrading to a larger cylinder piston and head . No case boring is required on the 150's crankcase either to put a 166cc or 177cc cylinder piston in.

You run leaner at high altitude... less air to fuel...

So, you will likely need to richen up the mixture...for Boise

Black plugs are common on a 2 stroke.. burns oil in the fuel.

WOW a carb in a box.. how cool is that! Great find Rich.

It's a downdraft too, how cool is that? That would be great for a GY6, you could hook right into an under seat airbox without the snake hose. I know they used to make them for four strokes but it seems like they went out of style. Anyway, I think it's great you got a Stella Will, but this is not something most of us are used to working on. It's going to be a learning curve that's for sure. See how I kept that from being thread hijacking? Rich

Sure it could........... Seriously, yeah I would think cleaning the carb would be a good idea. There's a step by step explanation of how to do that in that manual. Rich
