I picked up a used scooter for parts for my current project. Plastics are in rough shape but I'll more than recoup my money with wheels, engine, etc... It does need a CVT side cover as a casting detail is broken for the kickstart lever. I would prefer to keep the parts cost down and buy a used one if I can find one but is this a common problem with the GY6 engine? Should I just buy new? Anyone have any input on this? Anyone have one to sell?
One other question I have is the engine type. Engine is from Shanghai Jmstar Motorcycle Co, Ltd. and # is YY50QT-6. I am assuming it is 50cc. It physically appears to be a GY6 but how do I know? Are QMB and GY6 the same as far as ordering parts? If I need to order a new cover I'd obviously like it to be the right one the first time.....
Thanks in advance for your help.

You are reading the scooter model number.. the engine code is engraved into the casing on the left side just below the front of the CVT. It is likely something like XX139QMB
XX- the manufacturer. Quinjiang for example will put their own identifier in the code. QJ. An example of this would be QJ139QMB, a 50cc engine.
1 = the number of cylinders 39 = the bore in millimeters of the cylinder Q = a GY6 type engine M= a letter code always used on GY6 also (probably means horizontal engine) B= a numerical code for the displacement in cc's, in this case 50cc
10" wheels it is a short case cover you want...
The covers are important they add structural strength to the engines.

Under the layers of mud and grease was the number where you said it would be. It is a 139QMB so that will certainly help in getting the correct parts. I briefly rolled the power unit under the new scooter project (battery powered to gas powered) for a quick look/see and it looks to be a perfect fit. Should not take too much work to get it mounted. I'm going to get it up on the bench in the next few days and get it cleaned up and serviced. In the meantime I'll keep looking for a replacement cover and kickstart lever. It needs a new belt too so might as well get that ordered at the same time. Thanks again for your help. It is appreciated. Bill
