Well doing a valve adjustment on my JCL MP 250 with just over 1,000 miles on it when I went to remove the lower exhaust valve cover there was about 4 ounces of oil that spilled out, is this normal?

No, there should only be a half ounce at the most. The engine should sit overnight to cool off completely before adjusting.

It does not matter how much is in the valve cover when you take it off. It all depends on when it was last shut down and if it was on its side a little bit and did not run down into the Cam Chain hole back down into the crankcase. Next time you take it off it may have just an ounce of oil or half an ounce of oil. At least you know the oil passage is not clogged and the top end is getting lubed. Alleyoop
