For a 150cc they are poor... I'm NOT comparing them to anything else. The CVT trans suck the efficiency out of the engine...compared to a clutch and shiftable transmission/chain drive... I think there are a number of reasons why mileage is "poor" besides the transmission. It takes quite a bit of power to move the air aside at increasing speeds. Scooters are about as aerodynamic as a brick. I know if I keep my scooter below 45 mph I get 70 mpg. Beyond that speed mileage drops off steeply. Too much throttle and I'm down to 54 mpg. Eight horsepower pushing the air at speed and dragging along a 150 to 180 pound man can only do so much. I kept it at 40 mph on one trip and got almost 80 mpg. Even at that though, the mileage compares favorably to most motorcycles in the class. My wife gets 67 mpg out of her 250 Rebel on a good day, when I had the 250 Big Ruckus it got about 64.

Then you have to look at the other side of the coin some of us do not care about how much mileage it gets. We got them as a toy just to ride around on in the fresh air. The 650 burgman I had and sold to my brother-in law only gets 40-41 riding it easy and that is keeping it below 50mph. How I see it everyone buys one for a reaon, looks, mpg savings, speed ease of maintenace, cheap parts, as a fun toy etc.. Me the latter Alleyoop

I see it the same way, basically. I'm having fun and sticking it to the oil companies.

Only reason I see to check mileage is to check the scooters health kind of like taking the temp on a kid. I ride cause I like to ride.

I never thought to compare. I figure as long as its better mpg than the best car, I win
