take a closeup of the threads on the puller and the flywheel , with better light . What I would say is if the threads in the center of the flywheel are bad , using the puller I use will get it off . if it is the tool then you need a new tool.

Looks like the treads in the flywheel are stripped...or the puller is defective and slightly undersized
Cut a very thin strip of aluminum off a Coke can, stick it in the hole of the flywheel and then try and re-tread the puller in the hole. The Coke can shouldn't ruin the threads but it will make the puller fit tighter...
Alternately wrap the puller in teflon plumbers tape and see if you can get it to thread...

John is right...yes the flanged puller is probably the way to go in this case.. but it will very likely mean you will have to get a new flywheel

Sprocket , I guess luck is on my side . I have used the puller 3 or 4 times and (don't want to be a jinx) . I had ordered the correct tool a while back and got the wrong one .
GTI , be very carefull if you use the puller I posted a pic of , DO NOT try to bottom the screw out it will damage the coils on the stator on the under side . Go in enough to get through the thickness of the flywheel .

Yea, the threads on the Flywheel are shot and you will need a new flywheel, even if you get it off and put it back on the Locking Nust may come loose and will cause the flywheel to move out and wobble and can damage the stator if the Woodruff key comes out. BUMMER. Alleyoop

You can see the puller wobble around inside the flywheel well. It shouldn't do that at all. The threads are bad on the flywheel or puller, or the tool is the wrong size or defective. Possibly the part of the puller that fits in the well is out of round. Rich
