BLock some air by the FILTER so nothing can get into the Carb. Also to drill it out you can save a lot of of time JUST loosen the Clamps holding the Carb and rotate up so you can get the Drill into the Plug that way once you drill it out you can actually then TURN the Screw CLOCKWISE and count the number of turns it TOOK TO STOP. I am sure it is less than 2 1/2 turns. Then Turn it out 2 1/2 turns and rotate it back and tighten up the clamps and give it a shot. Let use know, good luck Alleyoop

Allrighty then. Drilled plug out and adjusted. 2 rotations in to close it off. 2 1/2 out, runs good. Adjusted idle screw and all set. THANK YOU Aleeyoop for all your help. Also thank you to shalom72c, silverfox96, Bashan, and imnts2 for all your help. So to recap this forum post and issues. Kick start was stuck in the down position. I removed the casing thats connected to the kick start. Spring was bound under the gear. Removed dear and spindle very carefully and painfully put spring then gear and spindal back on. (Best advice I can give here is patience. There is no trick) Problem number 2. Scooter would not start with ignition, only kick start. Problem here was a fuse that is found on a wire just off the battery. Just needed to be set back in place. Problem number 3. Scooter would start, then die 15 seconds later. Would die if you gave it gas, then would not crank at all. Solution: This ended up being the air/fuel mixture. This needed the be adjusted by a single screw found on the air outake side of the carberator on the right side (driver side) Only problem with this is that there is a cap covering this screw. Which leaves 2 options. New carb or drill cap out. The video above shows how to drill it out. another way is to loosen the air intake and outake screws (front and back of carb, and turn carb so air/mixture screw is at the top. Drill a small hole SLOWLY into the cap. on the Taotao 50 this cap is very thin, about 1/8 inch thick. the cap came right out. Once cap was out screwed screw in 2 full rotations (this was tightened all the way) then 2 1/2 rotations out. Worked perfectly. I attached a video The other videos posted by alleyoop are better this is just a quick recap. Again my scooter is a 2012 TaoTao 50 ATM50A Thanks again Alleyoop. Your a life saver

FANTASTIC!! ID, glad I could be of help. Yep the little bugger starts right up and stays running.
Now to fine tune the carb when you have some time after you get some rest.
That fuel ratio screw you WANT TO GET THE HIGHEST IDLE out of it. Because 2 1/2 turns is just a starting point. Don't get me wrong it might be ok but it may need a little more gas or a little less gas. We know 2 turns out doesn't cut it(HAHA). But 2 1/2 turns allows it to start and keep running.
So here is how to adjust FINE TUNE the carb so that it does not hesistate on you at higher rpms or hesitate when you give it throttle. Alleyoop
ADJUSTING YOUR FUEL RATIO SCREW:
FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE, take your time DO NOT Be turning the SCREW fast and wait in between turns otherwise you will be off.
Warm Up the SCOOT for at least 5 minutes.
YOU WANT THE HIGHEST IDLE OUT OF THE FUEL RATIO SCREW YOU CAN GET.
ADJUST YOUR FUEL RATIO:
1. Turn the Fuel Ratio Screw Counter Clockwise 1/4 and wait 10-15 seconds to allow the engine to catch up with the new setting.
** IF ON THE FIRST TURN IT DOES NOTHING OR IDLE GOES DOWN- GO to 2.*** Otherwise GO to a. below.
a. If the IDLE GOES up repeat 1. b. If the IDLE does not go up or it does nothing turn the Fuel Ratio Screw 1/8 Clockwise that should be the highest IDLE you can get out of the Fuel Ratio Screw-- GO to FINISH UP.
2. Turn the Screw Back 1/4 and GO to 3..
3. Turn the Fuel Ratio Screw Clockwise 1/4 and wait 10-15 seconds to allow the engine to catch up with the new setting.
** IF ON THE FIRST TURN IT DOES NOTHING YOUR PILOT JET AND OR PASSAGES ARE CLOGGED*** GO to CLEAN CARB*** Otherwise GO to a. below.
a. If the IDLE GOES up repeat 3. b. If the IDLE does not go up or it does nothing turn the Fuel Ratio Screw 1/8 Counter Clockwise that should be the highest IDLE you can get out of the Fuel Ratio Screw-- GO to FINISH UP.
FINISH UP: SET IDLE USING IDLE SPEED SCREW: USING the IDLE SPEED SCREW set the Idle to 1500-1800 where it IDLES the smoothest AND the REAR WHEEL IS NOT Spinning-
TEST YOUR ADJUSTMENT: Now while on the Center Stand GIVE THE THROTTLE a GOOD QUICK TWIST and Let go, It should REV UP with with a nice VROOOOOOOOOM with no Bogging or Hesitation and Come back down to where you set your Idle. DONE RIDE SAFE.
CLEAN CARB: Take Carb Bowl off and clean Pilot Jet and Pilot Jet Passage and Main Jet and Passage. Then come back and repeat this procedure.

its only half fixed....you will need a valve adjustment too if it has not been done they are always tight on new ones.

If during riding and getting it hot if it wants to die and not able to hold the idle when coming to a stop then yes by all means adjust the Valves. But if it runs good after getting it nice and hot and holds its idle when coming to stops no need at this point. My motto is IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX WITH IT. Alleyoop

That is your VENT hose for the Crankcase it needs to be open to the Air. I would just tie it up high on the frame with a zip tie. You could put a Fuel Filter on the end of it reason is if the engine starts to squirt some oil out you don't want it to spray all over your parts and motor. This way the Fuel Filter will not allow the oil to blow out and will drain back into the Valve cover if some oil gets squirt out. Alleyoop
