Driving home around 45mph I start hearing a wicked rattle. No where to stop I continued home, no real change in performance other then wicked rattle coming from around the front of the motor. Get home and realize that I am missing a bolt from where my exhast connects to my motor. I figure I lost a bolt, lost the gasket. Just need to reconnect. Thankfully I have a broke down 50cc so as a fix I could remove the bolt and gasket from it and put on the 150 being it's past midnight and no shops open. Guess what, no gasket on the 50cc. So now being that the scooter is my daily driver/only wheels, I tightened the bolts but still rattle, doesn't seem as bad though. So a few questions.... Will this be ok to drive to work tomorrow (3 miles) and then get a gasket (2 miles) without a gasket? Yes exhast will be connected Also, will this/has this caused any other damage I need to look into? Thanks in advance

Yeah that was my fear. Replaceing valves/pistons level of difficulty? Cost? Special tools? And is it actually worth it for a 50cc? I bought a 150cc and was going to keep the 50cc to play with, but to be honest i'm I little scared of actually getting that far into the motor.

How fast/how much of flow should come from the fuel line after the petcock. (line leading from petcock to carb))

When I did compression test, NO I did not have throttle open. Was my first time ever foing it. (yeah i'm an idiot) Will retest tonight along with a bypass test. I have inspected the lines, saw a small crack at vacum line, but didn't look like it went all the way, nor any change when I covered it. Will replace anyway though

Could a small break or crack in vacum line cause low compression? Also Any harm in bypassing petcock? Meaning run line fdom tank, to filter, to carb.. (capping of vacum line to petcock)

Just a thought..... Could it be that the gear from the kick start be interfering? Possibley the spring pushing gear farther int then it needs to? Its just a shot in the dark

My joyess 50cc scooter is down. I was travelling down the road at about 30mph and it died. Been working on it since (about 2 Weeks) I think I've narrowed the problem down, but would like a second opinion. So far I have Replaced the carb Set air/fuel mixture screw to 2 1/2 out Set valves at .004 Replaced spark plug (yes had and still have good spark) Compression test is showing 30 psi I pulled the gas line prior to petcock fuel flows fine Pulled past petcock and it dribbles out while turning key Removed airbox and sprayed starter fluid into airbox...when doing this scooter WILL start, but dies within 5 - 10 seconds even playing with throttle.
So after all this i'm thinking I have a bad petcock.
Any thoughts?

Ok so I previously owned a Taotao 50cc which I enjoyed (thank you members for previous help with it) but it ran into an issue that I haven't been able to solve yet. (different future post maybe) So I bought a 150cc jmstar, and loveing it. Now my queztion though, and sorry if its a stupid one. Are the design of the motors, carbs, intake etc the same? Meaning, when diagnosing an issue. Check air/fuel mixture, idle screw, adjust valves etc.. Its about time for its break-in change so I'd like to be prepared and it seems there are more makes/models/styles for 150cc. So a swift kick in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Allrighty then. Drilled plug out and adjusted. 2 rotations in to close it off. 2 1/2 out, runs good. Adjusted idle screw and all set. THANK YOU Aleeyoop for all your help. Also thank you to shalom72c, silverfox96, Bashan, and imnts2 for all your help. So to recap this forum post and issues. Kick start was stuck in the down position. I removed the casing thats connected to the kick start. Spring was bound under the gear. Removed dear and spindle very carefully and painfully put spring then gear and spindal back on. (Best advice I can give here is patience. There is no trick) Problem number 2. Scooter would not start with ignition, only kick start. Problem here was a fuse that is found on a wire just off the battery. Just needed to be set back in place. Problem number 3. Scooter would start, then die 15 seconds later. Would die if you gave it gas, then would not crank at all. Solution: This ended up being the air/fuel mixture. This needed the be adjusted by a single screw found on the air outake side of the carberator on the right side (driver side) Only problem with this is that there is a cap covering this screw. Which leaves 2 options. New carb or drill cap out. The video above shows how to drill it out. another way is to loosen the air intake and outake screws (front and back of carb, and turn carb so air/mixture screw is at the top. Drill a small hole SLOWLY into the cap. on the Taotao 50 this cap is very thin, about 1/8 inch thick. the cap came right out. Once cap was out screwed screw in 2 full rotations (this was tightened all the way) then 2 1/2 rotations out. Worked perfectly. I attached a video The other videos posted by alleyoop are better this is just a quick recap. Again my scooter is a 2012 TaoTao 50 ATM50A Thanks again Alleyoop. Your a life saver

ok only really cause it's getting late and getting frustrated....... If I where to restrict airflow to carb, what are the side effects to this #1. #2 how to restrict, would I need to restrict prior to the air filter like taping half the air intake, or after air filter (which is a little scarier if what ever i use happens to come loose) Your thoughts? I'll end up drilling it out, but starting to get tired and need to find my metal drill bits.

Ut uh. Knew i should have remember how many rotations that was orginally set to. Oh well idle is an easier fix. Gimmie a few and I'll update on Fuel Ratio adjustment. Thanks for your patience Alloop
