It was warm out today .I rode my scooter back to work .I had a few minutes .So I took it down the highway and just let it go .I was at 58mph with 7,050 rpms wot ,with the 13g rollers. Is that good or not ? I would like a little quicker response . I would like to get to the 58 mph a little quicker .

Redrider, That is good 13g 58mph at just 7000 rpms. To get it to run a little quicker drop in some 12 or 11.5 gram weights, your rpms will go up about 500 or so and will have a stronger pull. It will keep your belt lower in the variator longer but get you there quicker. Alleyoop

Alley I thought u said I wanted to stay right at the 7,000 rpm range wot .That's where I'm at .I don't understand .If I want a quicker response I need to put in a 12g roller? What about the big spring on the clutch .I do not understand what it does .When I put in new rollers should I put in a new spring .Torque Spring I think I read is what it is .

Torque sheave spring. It presses on the clutch to keep the clutch plates closed. When the plates are closed with a stronger spring, it takes more pressure on the variator (or more RPM's) to raise the belt on the variator and lower the belt in the clutch. The end result is that the transmission stays in a lower "ratio" longer. It's similar to putting in lighter weights, but different in that it causes a different acceleration profile than lighter rollers would. It also puts more stress on the belt. There are many reasons to do this as opposed to installing a variator with different roller ramps or rollers or sliders.
It's all a balancing act for the different components to the transmission.

I'd like to stick my 2 cents in. First of all Redrider, if you're basing the 58 MPH off of a stock speedometer, forget it, it could be off by as much as 15 MPH. Use a GPS if you want accuracy. If you can pop 60 or close to it with a 150cc you're doing great. Next, the RPMs on a GY6 are all opinion, I like to top end around a little more than 8K and then don't stay at WOT all the time. The lighter weights Alley mentioned can't push as hard on the inner facing of the variator so it doesn't move out as far as the RPMs increase. This keeps the CVT in "lower gears" so the engine winds out more per MPHs. Lower gears equal more acceleration and RPMs but less top end. At the clutch end, the contra aka main aka torque aka sheave aka you don't want that sumbitch coming loose and hitting you in the face spring does a similar function just at the rear of the CVT. As Greg so aptly described, it keeps the clutch pulley from coming out as easily which equals "lower gears". Oddly, the effect from changing the rollers or the main spring feels quite different when riding. It's just something you have to experiment with to appreciate. If you really want to get a handle on this you should get handy with an impact and torque wrench. I personally can't stand aftermarket main springs but feel like roller/slider changes are worth the trouble. IMO shoot for 58 MPH at 8,300 RPM with a 150cc GY6 with 13" wheels. Here's a short article explaining CVT principles that may clear things up. There's a boatload of other material in the CVT board and elsewhere in the Library. Rich

Redrider, Like I said before the redline on the CY6s 150s are 8K and above. The 150s make their MAX horsepower around 7500 rpms. So like I said you do not want to be cruiseing at WOT with the engine screaming at you, that makes for a short engine life. If your scoot has 13" wheels your speedometer is not far off or it could be almost dead on I know mine is.
I have a 1000 contra spring in rear clutch pulley and my Trike starts to move at around 2200 rpms. The Springs work this way, the number of the springs represent the ADDITIONAL RPMS needed for an action. So for example if your current scoot starts to move at 2500 rpms and you put in a 1500 contra spring you scoot will NOW start to move at approximately 3000-3500 rpms. Think of them as a car with a clutch, you push in the Clutch and step on the gas to get the engine rpms up and let the clutch go.
Like I said before I expected yours to be running at around 7000 with the 13gram rollers. I have experimented with everything you can think of in the cvt, different variators , weights from 10grams all the way to 13g weights both Rollers and Sliders. I even had a BOSS cut down to squeeze the belt more, even a little longer belt. If you put in 11g weights you will be running right around 7800 rpms 10g weights it will run over 8000 rpms, 12g right near 7500 rpms. Don't forget the tachs are not scaled down to small increments they are usually in 1000k increments and may be a little off to boot.
If you want more top end speed you need a few items. A bigger Variator in diameter so that you have more area for the belt to move up(REMEMBER a bigger wheel will turn another wheel more per revolutions). Also you can actually run out of the gearing in the trans once you reach that the only option you have is to put in taller gears in the tranny.
Mine came with 13/40 gears and I put in 16/37 gears but I also added more power to my motor so I would not loose low and mid-range speed. Mine will get up to speed very quick and the Trike weighs in at 350lbs and I weigh 180lbs. Alleyoop

The mechanical odometers on 95% of scooters in the U.S. are in kilometers even if the speedo is in MPH. If the speedo and the odometers are LED type there is a switch under the unit to switch both the odometer and the speedo to either kms or MPH.
However... both are fairly inaccurate...

Been through there a couple times on a MC, beautiful country. You got it all, mountains, lakes, lots of forest. I see it's raining there right now almost as hard as it is here. My wife's visiting up in Toledo, it's fixin' to snow there. I think I'll take the rain. Rich
