Hi all,
So my 2011 Taotao ATM50-A1 is about to hit 500 miles. The manual is translated exceptionally poorly from Chinese and so isn't much help. I admit I haven't been the gentlest in breaking in this motor, so I want to make sure I stay on top of the maintenance before it gets warm here and the season really starts.
So what should I be doing/changing/checking at 500 miles? I'm pretty sure 500 miles is when you're supposed to change the engine oil, beyond that, I'm not sure what to do.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone.

Yes change both your oils Crankcase and Tranny oil. If it is starting good and running good you can wait on adjusting the Valves. But once you notice harder starts and or little poorer performance Adjust your valves. You can check them now and see if they are getting tight before it starts to act up on you. If you do make sure the Valve Gaps you can slide in a .003 inch feeler gauage. Usually the Bottom Exhaust Valve will tighten up due to the heat it takes. The TOP Intake usually stays pretty good keeping cooler due to the Fuel and AIr it takes in.
Also check your bolts especially where the muffler is attached to the scoot. Alleyoop

No trying to hi jack the thread, but when I change my oil can I use regular engine oil,or is it best to use motorcycle oil? I know motorcycles has a wet clutch ,which a scoot does not .Is that way motorcycles need the special oil because of the clutch?

Thanks for the input Alleyoop.
Can anyone link a tutorial or video on how to change the crankcase and tranny oil? I've changed the oil on my cars plenty of times, is there anything different between car and scoot?
What about a tutorial/video for checking valves?
Thanks again guys.

Thanks for the vids Alleyoop!
Changing the oils looks straightforward, I'm pretty sure I found the drain bolt for the engine oil and the drain and fill bolts for the gear oil on my scoot.
Checking the valves is a little scarier though... I haven't taken the valve cover off my engine before... so I'll be approaching this very gingerly and cautiously, and hopefully with the help of a friend.

Remember the oil sump on a GY6 scooter uses about 80% of a US quart.. or 750ml...
Many people pour in a whole quart and it is too much...

I found the perfect funnel for oil changes on the gy6 engines at O'Reillys for around three or four bucks. It has a handle built onto the main body of the funnel. It also is marked in ml's and shows 750ml plainly on the side. (no more guessing about how much I put in) Has about a 12" clear vinyl tube on the bottom with a plug in it. Makes oil changes easy peasy!

I started using an old bottle that is kind of like a water bottle. I fill it up to 750ml and then put the nozzle in the fill hole and squeeze the oil in, it works really good, clean and fast.
I works exceptionally well for the small fill hole for the tranny.
