Alright Alley here is the scoop:
I have a BBK 63 mm, A14 cam, racing coil, CDI and +4mm crank from Scrap dog, I have a new pre bored case, 61mm head that I purchased from Steven at MonsterGY6. I have installed. I have installed a 2.3mm shim gasket (from MBE) on the bottom of the cylinder with a metal gasket between the case and the cylinder. I have another metal gasket between the head and the cylinder to compensate for the +4 crank.

HIGH TORQUE STARTER.. I would also get a 30AH battery..no way that little battery will last trying to turn that engine over...

as i have read where you have got the starter wire hot enough to start smoking i would replace them with heaver wire so that they can handle the extra current that the starter needs to crank that monster of a motor over

also a racing coil and cdi are waste of money. i tried one of those racing CDIs and it made it run like crap (electrical timing).

>>>also a racing coil and cdi are waste of money. I agree most are garbage...but good CDI and coils from makers like NCY are worth the money.. they will outlast the scooter.... Here is a new type of AC CDI.. with a number of adjustments...timing and rev limiter Attachments:

quality is a good advantage i agree. i don't think stock CDIs have a rev limit. i hit 10k with messed up A9 cam stock or aftermarket cdi didn't matter.
We don't know if he has good cdi and coil or cheapies. I'm thinking there are several issues at hand here.

Here is the CDI Here is the coil and wire. Wire definitely thicker and better quality than stock.

i was talking about the battery cables and ground wires they need to be heavier so they can carry the current that the starter needs to turn that big motor over and you will need to put the shroud on the motor or it will not last

Gti, Just for chuckles put on the Standard CDI it will not be advanced to see if it then turns over. I know mine with the performance NCY and PURPLE CDI will not turn over on the first hit of the start button. My volt meter drops to zero and the motor kicksback then I hit it again and it cranks right up. Then I can put the standard CDI in and it starts right up no kickback and does not hang up and my volt meter does not drop to zero.
Mine has quite a bit of compression which I am sure your monster motor does as well and I would just for the hell of it chaning the advanced cdi with the oem see if it helps. IT may not but worth a try so you can then decide what you need stronger battery heavy duty starter etc.. Alleyoop

I have known many people to have problems with those CDIs...I agree with Alley get it back to stock electrics and get it running and then start swapping parts one at a time...
But I would be very surprised if you can turn the engine over with a stock starter.. there simply isn't enough windings...you will just arc the brushes on the commutator...Perhaps a brand new stock starter would work, but if your starter has many starts on it you don't stand much of a chance.
You want to put the black plastic shroud back on the engine.. or you will soft sieze it in 20 miles...I guarantee it! These are forced air cooled engines...

The CDI is M.I.A. and I had planned on ordering a new shield once i was up and running. I am in the process of moving, finishing up school for the semester, working on Project "Over my head" and heading to Italy for a month. I want to get this thing running and out of what little hair I have left.
Ordered the High torque starter, it will be here tomorrow.

i may have to try one of these aftermarket coils and see if it makes for a fatter/hotter spark. any one ever compare the chinsy/aftermarket coils to stock coils?
